How do you get on the roof (Interstate Lounge EXT)

Hi everyone,

I'm buying a 2018 Interstate Lounge EXT. Wondering how you get on the roof while away from home? Is this going to be standard kit that should be carried with the van all the time?

Thanks. Stephen

I carry this:

I thought about getting a spare tire rack with a ladder, but I like the flexibility that this small collapsible ladder provides.

Ladder is absolutely a life saver.

From a stuck awning to a solar panel inspection cleaning.

I have one of these on our rig. No drilling required and they attach to the top and bottom of the door with some brackets. It’s also easy to remove if you need to. It’s been on for a few years now with no issues. Easy install too.

Does your Yakima EXO storage box clear the ladder? I'm thinking of adding this ladder to my van for easier roof access on the road. I travel with a Yakima EXO on the back.

Mike, you’re good with clearance. Mine clears it with no issues even when we put the second level on with the our bikes.

this seems more maneuverable than the ladder I use to wash the roof and the upper sides.

might have to get one just for that, and throw it in the trunk when out and about.

We carry a 12 footer. Wrapped a permant towel around the top so it’s ready to go. 5-10 seconds and on the roof in any position. Really came in handy to close awning in when I lost power and didn’t trust the auto close ( chassis power?) of the AI to take over.
Stores on its side on roadside ready to go and big screen closes to floor.

What do you attach the top to so that nothing on the roof is damaged?

We have always just laid down an old towel, moving it as needed.

On our collapsible ladder we attached felt furniture pads along the top. Works quite nicely:
