Honda Generator - for ASI

Can we power our ASI power using our 2200i Honda Generator?

Yes, with the same limitations as with your trailer.

Should be about like plugging it into a 15 amp outlet. So it will not be "fully powered".

I use a Yamaha 2400 when tailgating because it is so much quieter than the Onan genset. It will run the air conditioner, microwave, or other items like tv and crockpot, but not at the same time. I'd bet that the Honda would give similar results. (You may need a soft start installed on your AC for it to work with yours)

Thanks everyone - I appreciate the guidance.

10-4 on the “soft start” for the A/C unit.

It’d be neat to remove the Onan and transport the Honda in the Onan location (dream)

While you are dreaming, attach your propane tank to your Honda since its in the Onan’s location

Agree... a propane fueled quiet Honda generator would be great... or diesel...

Just not gasoline...I would hate to have to carry an additional fuel source in my AI

There is also a Westinghouse dual-fuel that folks in Facebook have been talking about...

But..............

Is it really as quiet as a Honda 2200? We have two of those units (one companion) with less than an hour’s run time accumulated.

PS - I agree about the propane conversion benefit.

I do not know first hand... would be great to be able to confirm that. Honda's noise level would be hard to beat...

I rarely run the generator, it is too noisy inside- not as bad outside.
Plus the older AI has a tiny propane tank with quite a bit run off of that. (Hot water, refrigerator, stove, generator). But I’ve also only had to fill the propane one time on last years’ 11,000 mile six week trip around the country. And didn’t run out at the end either.

Diesel would be neat- since there is lots of fuel and readily fillable.
But I suspect it would be even noisier- and a LOT more expensive.
Propane burns nice and clean, and does well sitting extended periods of time.

Has anyone hooked up two Honda generators in parallel? Supposed to be able to run the AC then, but I haven't seen a confirmation of that. Are they really worth the money and that much quieter? Agreed on the Onan though, it is so loud we rarely run it. I was somewhat shocked at the noise level between it and the AC unit.

We have the pair of Honda’s from our AS Globetrotter, and ran them in parallel successfully.

I believe just one 2200i is all you’ll need to run the AC. Perhaps a soft start device mentioned earlier.

Came across a Champion 3400, dial fuel generator, that at 59 db's is darn close to the Honda for noise, and powerful enough to run a 15,000 btu A/C. Has a 30 amp RV plug included.

https://generatorgrid.com/reviews/ch...00w-dual-fuel/

Cheers

Not a detailed comparison... but thought I would share:

https://www.chainsawjournal.com/best...ter-generator/

Interesting as these both compared head to head with the Honda in terms of decibels: Honda is 59 decibels at maximum rated load and 53 decibels at quarter load

Good to know all this information. I read the soft start could possibly reduce the life and/or is hard on the AC unit, but I guess why worry really? It’s so loud I’d love an excuse to throw it off on the highway anyway! Ha...

If you’re going to spend that much $$ for a second generator why not use it toward a quieter AC unit IF the soft start would happen to take it out!
