Fusion battery drain

I'm at Mercedes. My original chasis battery was changed soon after I purchased new due to low voltage. Since then, almost 2 years, no problem.

Now all of a sudden after 30 day trip, 4000 miles, I'm noting drain again. Also yesterday screeching noise, I think from fusion, happened when engine started.

No more screeching but fusion seems to be staying lit up and on, like a constant drain unless I manually hit the off button and Mercedes says a "drain" can suddenly start to happen?

Would like thoughts, feed back, and recommendations for who could put in one of those fusion cut off switches for me. Has anyone had airstream do it? Thanks

It might look intimidating, but it is a fairly easy modification to make...

Just get the switches and do it yourself... or, if you are ever in Orlando, FL... I can help you with it.

Link to the switches (need two): https://www.ebay.com/itm/NCV3-Sprint...72.m2749.l2649

I'm likely to take you up on that offer. I will be down after Jan 1. For at least a week. Let me know if that would work. Thanks

Wachuko, i am fixin to add the switches to cut off power to Fusion. Did you use a relay for the switch or just wire it directly?

It takes two switches. One for the yellow wire and one for the red wire. The switches can go in the blanks in the dashboard to the left of the Fusion. No relay is needed. The links for the matching Mercedes switches is in a post above in this thread.

Took me probably a half-hour to remove the Fusion, cut and extend the four wire ends, fish the four wires, attach the wires to the switches, push the switches in place, and reinstall the Fusion.

Thanks for the input Pahaska. Gonna shop around for those switches and get it done.

one switch

Just use a DPTP switch. Which means double pull, double throw.
Two switches in one.

Double pole, not double pull. I think you really meant DPST, which is double pole, single throw. i.e. both wires are either connected or disconnected together.

Trouble is, I don't know whether there is a DPST switch available that matches the Mercedes dash switches. I prefer to keep the dash looking original. My first search didn't find one.

Call me crazy but after i installed the two switches, one for the battery and one for the ACC ignition, both switches must be either off or on to operate the fusion. Don’t get me wrong, both switches in the off position kill the power to the fusion, which is the ultimate goal. But i am scratching my head on this one. I used a meter and traced many wires while back there. Seemed simple and thought no problem at all, but the Airstream wins again.
Anyone have similar issue?

Same thing. Both switched on to use the Fusion. Both switches off to kill the Fusion. A DPST switch would do the same thing, but I couldn't locate a matching switch to the dash switches.

The Fusion like my Kenwood and most automotive entertainment systems have two power inputs. One for constant power to keep unit in standby mode and a second through the "ignition" key switch to fully power the unit when you start/run the vehicle. See attached diagram for how it works on my Kenwood DNX7 unit.

I'm heading to Airstream to hopefully get my fusion issues resolved. Nothing but problems since day one over 2 years ago. Totally unreliable. The first trip, they said I just needed an update...wrong. since beginning, constantly rebooting enroute. So I use my phone and a back up Garmin. Then, static, screeching noises, plastic smells,.and now totally no sound or a piercing high pitch sound. While it may be just the fusion itself, with the speakers also blowing and hot plastic smell, I'm thinking electrical short , screw in a wire somewhere? Any recommendations are appreciated. I want to make sure they check entire system and fix it the right way this time! I bought switches to cut the power to it, but held off installing so they can't blame me for creating the problem. So, yes, for over 2 years, travelling with no sound or radio or CD player.

Yikes... you are doing the right thing by not touching it... let them fix it under warranty.

I am just surprised it would still be covered. Let us know how it goes.

So I just got around to the Fusion “two button turn off”. Interesting findings on MY16 Ext.
Per Kenwood’s schematics the outboard wire in the plug should be red and next to it yellow. My outside wire is yellow and next is orange. I wired a rocker to the yellow wire and checked my monitor. Success, battery drain 0. Radio is off until the rocker is back on. The orange wire sees power only with the engine on, someone accidentally did that right!
