[QUOTE=wachuko;2102131]Did you consider the ultra quiet unit that Advanced RV is offering?
One other factor was cooling capacity. If the one ARV is using is the HOUGHTON BELAIRE HB3400 AIR CONDITIONER, it puts out 3.5kw of cooling, which is about 12, 000 btu's. The Dometic puts out 15,000btu's.
So, add that factor to consider.
On the positive side, the Houghton has a built in soft start, so LRA amps is likely not an issue.
The Houghton is quite new-so new, in fact this is what you see when you vist their web page:

New, means untested. Just too much risk for me to worry about. I already have one dead Dometic (which in all fairness, I could have probably fixed for under a couple of hundred bucks had the tech been smart enough to figure out the issue). For those that run into an issue with the Dometic fan, have them replace in this order: 1. Capacitor. 2. Electronics board. 3. Fan.
I am fairly certain it was either 1 or 2, but by the time I figured that out, without going into details, I decided to just replace the unit and upgrade anyway.
Next time, I will know better.
Tomorrow, since I have a week to kill, I'm taking the Sprinter to a MB Sprinter about 81 miles away to dealer to replace the glow plug on CYL 1, and check everything out as well. It's twice as far as the closest Freightliner/Sprinter dealer, but I have had issues with the dealership in the past and would rather drive twice as far than have to deal with them again if I can help it.
Eventually, we will be back on the road again. That's the nice thing about RV'ing. Flexibility.
