I have gotten a "bridge" type loan a couple times for full value on vehicles to purchase/register a vehicle, since I was registering it in MT and I was living in TX, then re-financed with my credit union once it was in my name. If your credit is good, they will typically cut you a check for the full amount of the value of vehicle your purchasing.

GYPSYSDAD - Same here, though not recently, was many, many years ago when rates were so low, it did not make sense to tie up my cash. And yes, my credit union seemed to be more accepting of vehicle refis.
