Under NO circumstances should you drive your vehicle without very secure straps holding your awning in. Your gearbox assembly is failing, the gears are losing their teeth integrity. The gearbox costs about $500-600 from Fiamma. I have not done a replacement but I think you could handle it(?)
These awnings are under very high spring tension and want to propel themselves OUT with significant force. The gears keep it from doing this but only when they are in good condition. Just removing the fuse (which is probably #10 under the drivers seat and also powers the electric step) will not keep your awning from deploying by itself. If it deploys while driving, it will become like a sail over the top of your vehicle and could push you into oncoming traffic. I am not kidding.
