And looking further - I guess the Interstate is a "motorhome" and you get a different rate for that. It's all in the FAQs - sorry I didn't look deeper earlier...

Hmmm... Thanks Steeve. But I really don't think they pay so strict attention for this if you use EZ Pass... Sprinter looks like a regular full size van.

Once, couple years ago I went to NY City on my Toyota Sequoia with my enclosed cargo trailer on the back. And it was a real snow storm when I've running thru the EZ Pass there. One of their booths failed to read my transponder due to the storm, and after couple of months I received to my home in FL a ticket with photopicture of my trailer's license plate. What I've done is I called them and mailed them my documentation showing I have an EZ Pass account, and the issue was closed. They never asked me for a special transponder for trailer.

I agree that the EZ Pass system seems to allow for lots of "near misses" on having the correct transponder for the actual configuration of the vehicles going through the toll gate. As I commented yesterday, however, it is worth the cost/effort of complying with the "letter of the law" and having the correct transponder for your vehicle class, just in case a zealous toll plaza attendant, or state trooper, wants to challenge you for having the "wrong" transponder.

Will you get away with having the wrong transponder most of the time? Probably.

Every time? Maybe not . . .

Better safe than sorry IMO.

For the effort of a little paperwork and foresight, why not get the correct transponder? Why risk having a road trip come to a sudden stop over this?

YMMV
