Electric step on Interstate going, going, gone

My 2012 Lounge electric side step hesitated retracting a few times, and I kicked it in most of the way to make it fully retract. However, a day of that and now nothing - just stuck in there, although sometimes I hear a motor whirring sound for a while. In fact, I noticed 3+amp current draw with everything else off, so I tried switching off the step retract switch - no more 3+amp draw.

However, now the step does nothing - is this a simple sheared cotter pin or something that dropped off, or is this a major replacement hassle?

Thanks in advance...

Not sure about the innards of the retractable step but my guess would be a stripped gear (seems like all the gears in motorized RV devices are made of cheap plastic or pot metal) or a sheared pin as you suspect. Let us know what you find out.
