MAGGIE - I think the one pictured is a people mover, i.e. van/limo configuration but they are all custom, so they are all built to customer specs. No two units are identical (supposedly)

This also appeared in my news feed today. I don’t know how to link via my phone so here’s a screenshot. The article is short on tech details, which is always the case. Sometimes I think bots are writing this stuff.

INTERBLOG - I think this was part of that newsfeed from EU today. They seem to imply this Sprinter 4x4 is into EXTREME off-roading with the brush guard winch & SNORKEL. Not sure how serious they are or just a for-show 4x4, coz notice the press release shot is ON PAVEMENT

ALEX - the license plates on that 4x4 are from Iceland. They are really big on this type of Sprinter van. I saw several when in Iceland last year.

MIKE - Yeah, noticed that too. I am sure 4x4 is more popular there. The snorkel looks a bit out of place on a Sprinter, especially the LWB version. I don't think the one in that pic would ever go that deep into water being so pristine & pretty I have to admit those tires look nice inside the wheelwell. I only wonder how much ride comfort & mpg one has to sacrifice to have the aggressive stance

Don't knock it until you try it... You never know... the 4x4 Airstream Interstate 19 could do this:
I just imagine having to cover with aluminum plates everything under it... to avoid loosing the drains, tanks, etc.

WACHUKO - Nope, not knockin' it. Quite the contrary, if I ever buy a Shorty 19, I would definitely want a 4x4. And I brought up the tires coz I won't mind having those even on standard 2WD Sprinter if it doesn't ride horribly on pave and mpg loss is not bad.
The part I am knockin' is the snorkel on an obviously pristine Sprinter LWB. I just can not imagine snorkeling on ANY Sprinter LWB, especially an Airstream (Shorty or Longley). That's pretty extreme even for serious off-road machines.
PS. Convinced a friend last night during dinner to order a Shorty, but only if they offer the 4x4 option. He will, if they do. He is someone I do SAG Support for in a 500 mile 48 hr. bicycle endurance race in UT every year (this weekend). We usually use his F150 4x4 but a Shorty 4x4 would be awesome in the terrain we cover

WACHUKO - I too like the look. When it's time for new tires, I would seriously consider them if I don't have to compromise too much noise, comfort, & mpg. In the 80's I had an Econoline conversion van that had similar BFG's. They were not too bad.

I made this point on Class B Forum a while back: rather than off-road-readying our van, I built a better road into my property.
In other words, I made the road conform to the van rather than trying to make the van conform to the road.
It was wildly cheaper to do it that way. It also has a far better ROI. Improved real estate appreciates much more readily than improved vans.
Of course, that approach only works if one has just one target road to deal with. If general exploration is the goal, one is limited to improving the van. But we’ve had that conversation before, as to what is even possible with a Sprinter (i.e., not much due to its wheel base and angles).

Based on the list of incoming Interstate 19’s on the Colonial Airstream web pages they are offering it in a 4x4 version.

Interested in seeing one of those...
Do you know if all those will be 6 cylinders?
What is the fuel economy on those, since they have less weight than the extended versions? 23mpg?

Do you have a link for this? The only IS 4x4 I see is this 24' one:

I suspect Airstream is having problems making them. Lots of forces in work. Airstream problems with new model. Sprinter MY2018 is ending. There are also rumors of production delays on the new MY2019 Sprinters. Initial reports said the new Sprinter details for USA/CAN would be available in June. Now near end of August and still no details for our market.

Thanks Mike, do you recall if there was a 19' MSRP listed? The 24' linked earlier is $177k +/-.
Ooph!
Time to look for a used 4x4 Sportsmobile with a pop-up roof I guess.
Thanks,
Peter

I didn’t notice the price. There is whole thread on the 19.
New 19’ Interstate price and layout

I think the MSRP was about $150K. If your interested you could always contact a dealer like Colonial.
