Coffee Maker
Will a 1475 Watt (max) K-Cup coffee maker work in my Airstream GT with the chassis motor running? I know with the 1000W inverter it won’t work with the engine off. My thoughts are ....no matter if the engine is running or not the coffee machine will trip the breaker. I don’t want to start the generator or have to be on shore power to make a cup
of coffee.
So, if I’m correct, I need to look for a coffee maker that draws less than 1000 watts. I prefer a K cup machine. Any recommendations?

We do the same thing as Bob. Better coffee- doesn’t take long to make. We previously used the smallest version of Mr Coffee. It was 500 or 750W but uses so much battery power with the inverter it was not worth it.

French presser's here. Boil water in a pan on the stove, pour it in the press and wait 4 mins. Wa-la, you've got great coffee!

Nespresso
One of the smallest Nespresso machines works fine for us even though it claims to need slightly more than the inverter provides. Makes really good espresso. Otherwise, it is cowboy coffee or french press from grounds.

We found an 1100W K cup machine on Amazon and used it for several years. It worked fine, but it was a battery drain.
This year we replaced it with an Aeropress. Makes great tasting coffee with a lot less mess than a French press.

We upgraded our inverter to 2000W along with larger battery bank to run our Keurig. You can’t run a 1475W appliance on a 1000w inverter.

Yep, if you want to make bad coffee with pods while using your stock 1kw inverter, you're gonna have to find a pod machine that draws less than 1kw.

I feed my Vibiemme Super Domobar espresso machine with fresh roasted beans out of a Mazzer grinder every morning at home, so I know what good coffee tastes like. But a quick K-cup brew while cruising 70 mph is hard to beat
This one should work with the stock inverter

I know you don't want to hear this but I use a stovetop Farberware percolator. Not convenient like the K cup but the flavor is outstanding. A smaller electric percolator only uses 500 watts and these also make great coffee.

And no electricity needed.

Now you've opened a can of beans!
I am coffee L-O-V-E-R. After 6 years of Airstreaming I can say that no method is without its pluses and minuses.
Here is what I have personally tried.
Stove top percolator-Plus-doesn't need electricity, makes multiple servings. Minus-takes forever to finish especially in altitude (20 or more minutes), can be a bit too strong or acidic for some.
Manual Pour Over. Plus-faster than percolated. Easy to clean. Easier to adjust how strong it is. Minus-still have to boil the water which can take a long time. Tip over/scald danger.
French Press. Plus-better tasting than manual pour over. Minus-Still have to boil the water. Messy to clean.
Stove Top Moka (pressure) espresso. Plus-fast for a stove top method. Very good pour. Minus-Doesn't make a lot. Some mess to clean. Too strong for some. Have to do it all over agin for that second cup.
Electric Methods (assume generator or shore power)
Nespresso with pods. Plus-very fast at about 40 seconds a cup. Very good taste. Suitable small size for Airstream. Minus-loud--can't make this while partner is asleep. Kind of expensive.
Regular drip machine- Plus-makes a full pot, easy to use. Minus-can be bulky for Airstream use.
K Cup-I have not used in Airstream but assume it's like others I have used in hotels where it isn't especially hot or good coffee in my opinion.

For years I've searched for the perfect coffee brewing system.
For me it starts with green beans that I roast in my home roasting unit, a Gene Cafe. From there I grind them and use a Yama Siphon pot, the old fashioned way.
However, on the road, I go with convenience and use a mini-Keurig. It's still a good cup of coffee and like most things when we camp, it's a compromise.

I've used this k-cup single serving coffee maker for a couple years in the Airstream. Great unit for travel. 800W. And doesn't retain liquid inside once it's done.

I also use the Vibiemme at home. On the road, I use the Bialetti Moka. Good enough substitute. I pregrind my coffee for the trip to lessen the work. Just have to heat up milk.

Hi, we use a stainless steel stove top purcolator in our house and in our trailer. Simple to use and nothing to go wrong.
