LUCKYSNUCK - I not sure if the airflow dial affects the freeze-up condition as much as the temp dial and 4-bar fan speed control does, or if it's a weird combo of all of them. I leave mine in the exact opposite 9 o'clock setting all the time in summer. And I leave in 3 o'clock position all the time in winter. And I only use 12 o'clock in rare occassions when I need to de-fog windshield together with the windshield heater switch.
9 o'clock - Directs air through the center and side
12 o'clock - Directs air to the windshield and the air
3 o'clock - Directs air to the windshield, the air

6 o'clock - Directs air to the air vents and into the
The "other in-between o'clock" settings generate a mix of the 2 most adjacent main settings.
