changing oil 2013 Sprinter

Any one suction oil from engine rather than using drain plug?

I normally use the pump extraction method for the cars, but for the AI, it was just easier to use the traditional drain method instead. My extractor won't hold the full amount of oil, so I'd have to stop partway through and empty it. If your extractor will hold all 12-13 quarts, then the pump extractor might be better.

I use a Harbor Freight extractor which easily holds all the used oil. It requires an air compressor to create the vacuum. I lubricate the plastic tube and use care when inserting and removing it from the dipstick tube. Wear gloves because the tube gets hot from the oil (you’ll want to run engine for a little while beforehand so oil flows well)
You will get plenty of opinions on draining vs extraction, but supposedly MB techs use extraction so it’s good enough for me.

I prefer traditonal draining. I don't know if my logic is right, but if you extract a big oil pan 13 qt. what happens to all the dirty oil still clinging to sidewalls of tank? As oil slowly now drips to low point, which could take hours from my observation with traditional drain plug method. Do you go back few hours later and suction again? My process is open drain, let sit few hrs. or overnight, wick remaining oil near drain hole with lint-free cloth, and close. Isn't it better, though not faster, to work with gravity instead of against? Or, if really want to get every last ounce, can it suction from bottom of oil pan?

The oil drain plug is so easy to access that I did not even consider using a syphon. I don't know where the syphon tube would hit the bottom of the oil pan. Seems like the drain plug would have to remove more oil than you can syphon. I would guess that MB mechanics use a syphon because it is easier, not because it is better. I drive the passenger side front tire onto a 2x8, which makes the drain plug the low point in the system. When replacing the filter cartridge I pump about 1/2 cup of oil out of the bottom of the oil filter housing, to get as much old oil out as possible.

I just did an oil change in mine and I agree with others. It is so easy to just remove the drain plug, that I will not even bother with the oil extractor contraption.
