Black Water Valve On 2009 AI
Hello,
My black water valve does not seem to operate. The grey water, macerator, and hose reel all work. The light on the black water rocker switch does come on, and the valve will not open. Fuses are all good. Anyone else had this problem? Could it be just the switch, just the valve, or wiring? Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Tim

Can you hear the motor when you throw the switch? I can on mine.
You can manually move the valves. It means laying down under the AI, but you ought to be able to push the valve open and closed. If it does not push fairly easily, there may be a blockage. Perhaps moving it manually will free up the valve. If it pushes fairly easily, I would suspect the motor or the wiring.

I meant to say that the red light on the switch does NOT come on. Could that mean the switch is bad? I'll try moving the valve by hand too. I cannot hear the black water valve move. I can hear the gray water valve, which works.

Not coming on is likely the switch or associated wiring.

You can manually open & close the valve with a small hex wrench. Opened manually the light at the switch should be lit. Try exercising the valve manually and it may function assuming all electrical connections are good. The valve itself is not hard to change but easy to over tighten so it won't open using the switch.

In addition to fuse, switch, and wiring to check, there is also a relay. On my 2013 Lounge EXT the relays (gray and black) are near the curb-side wall just in front of the rear wheels. To test the relay simply swap the wires going into the relays. If the black valve then works and the grey doesn't, the relay is the problem.

Mine is a 2009. Do you know if this model year had those relays?

Black Water valve
had a similar issue. turns out the valve was oriented too close to the exhaust pipe and the heat from the exhaust melted it. Dealership had rebuilt the plumbing and so they fixed it. There is a heat shield to protect it, and now it's all good. In my troubleshooting, I removed the switch panel from the box and swapped the grey and black tank wiring harness to see if it was the switch or relay. When the grey still worked with the black switch, I crawled under and found the melting.
