We put the business side of the van up on a Lynx leveler block or two to raise that side, chocked it and firmly set the brakes to minimize the risk of movement. I should probably add that we were working on pavement in a level location, which improved safety (no settling, no eagerness to roll). No jacks because I only have the one that comes with the van for changing a flat, and I don't consider that kind of jack safe for under-van work.

That said, it's your van, your risk, and I'm only telling you what we did...not how it should be done. It's a "how I did it," not a "how to do it."

I removed, rebuilt, and replaced my macerator by running the roadside tires up on two levels of lego-type blocks. A little tight, but enough room to operate. It was on my level concrete driveway.

So, for how many inches you have increased the clearance under metal box before start working under it, about 6 inches? (I am trying to be prepared to make sure it will be enough room for working there)

I used two interlocking lego-type blocks that added about 2 1/2 inches and worked under there just fine. And, by the way, I am 8 years old and not thin.

Only 2 and half inches... it is really a small addition to the clearance. I would probably be able to increase it to 6 inch. Thank you, the topic is cleared. And btw, how-how old are you? )))

We may yet do the same. We currently have 20' replacement hose, but the last couple of feet are quite a bear. Of course, I also suspect our reel is failing, so we may also have to fix that...already have the parts kit to rebuild it, just haven't buckled down to git 'er done.

Good idea for the rear wheels. And how did you soundproof the gen?

I bought 25' of replacement hose. Used half for first replacement and saved half for next replacement. Have never found that 12' was too short, and much easier to rewind. Can one manually rewind the hose if/when the rewind motor fails? I assume one can, though not easily.

Yes it is possible to manually rewind the hose if the reel motor fails, but it will be a lengthy and unpleasant experience. Even though our reel has not completely died yet, we know this because when we replaced the hose with a new one it did not want to be wound. The new hose had not been stored with a tight enough coil, so we had to "teach" it to coil as tightly as the reel requires. To do so we had to open the box around the reel from the bottom, and roll it by hand while using a hair dryer to soften the hose as we reeled it in for the first time. Beyond that, we'll see.

Talking Gen silencing pads...

For Mr. B: I used noise pads made by “Noico”.They are 80 mil silencing pads, I bought the 10 sq ft package. The pads are easily cut in half.......big PITA to slide above and around gen housing....doubled up on sides and top. REALLY improved noise in coach....

Thanks! Are those pads heatproof, and what type of adhesive did you use if any?

Looks like the pads have their own adhesive layer. "Sounds" like a great idea, as I really hate how noisy our generator is. I even tried an external Cummins muffler that fits on the end of the generator's tailpipe, and while it changed the character of the outside sound to seem less annoying, the DB app on my phone didn't see any difference in noise level. So, quieter would be good.

That said, if the Noico blankets are applied to the generator vs. the vehicle's floor, I would worry a little bit about whether they might cause the generator to overheat while in use. I'm hopeful that it won't do that, and look forward to reports from those brave souls who have applied it, such as Beemerman. Please do share your experience as time goes by.

Yes I agree. It is important if the genset covered with Noico can be overheated especially in hot months when we need to use it for AC.

Beemerman, share your experience on how hot is your generator after a bit of running

Exclamation Gen-noico pads

Certainly will share experiences......I could not find any cooling holes or openings that I covered. I will re-visit cooling requirements of the gen.....so far no problems....in 70 degree temps....
