The Kenwood in my 2012 Sprinter/2013 AI is powered by both coach and chassis. As such your problem should not be related to whether/not it is plugged in. Mine occasionally gets a fatal error message when in the navigation mode, which I clear by turning it off and on. BTW, does anybody know how to turn off the Kenwood radio. When we want to turn off the radio we do so by turning on the CD without a CD in it. Overall we hate the Kenwood - but not enough to pay big bucks to replace it.

I can help you with that. Put your finger over the MENU button an hold it there for a few seconds. This is how you turn it on and off.

I know that as my house batteries fade they seem to send slight pulses of power. I think the Kenwwood is reacting to this. I feel same as you about the Kenwood

Best practice 2012 AI Electrical System

I put a small piece of white tape over the Menu/Power button on my Kenwood. It really helps turning the unit off. Photo attached.

Some of your problems with Kenwood might be solved by making sure you have the latest software installed. Start at this web site and enter your model number.

There have been two major software updates since I bought my Interstate in 2012.

Holding down the menu button turns everything off. I want to leave on the GPS but turn off the radio. I am looking for the 'radio off' button, though I am beginning to think that it does not exist.

Go to Menu and select "Standby". That turns off every function except GPS.
