At last, a real screen door!

We travel with 2 feathered escape artists (lineolated parakeets) and were in need of a secure screen door. We’d previously modified our 2014.5 by removing the 2nd row seat and installing a cabinet.

My DH spent much of this past summer designing and installing the door:

Inspiration for this mod came from the beautiful designs of Advanced RV.

The scariest part was cutting off the plastic trim on the B pillar (sproing! said the seat belt adjuster, and deposited some puzzling small parts on the floor).

The most tedious part was building a square frame inside a decidedly non square opening, and trimming it out to harmonize with existing finishes.

We’ve used it for a couple of weeks now, and it’s a huge improvement. This is the first time we’ve been able to really use the sliding door.

That looks amazing!!! Excellent level of detail on the fitting, just wow! Thank you for sharing.

Do share more photos of the interior to see how the cabinet setup looks now,

Wachuko,

The cabinet is kinda complicated because we wanted it to do a lot.

Outside, from back to front, water and electric on hooks, O-Grill in cabinet, miscellaneous adapters and cables on shelf above.

Inside, shoe storage in drawer, trash and miscellaneous behind cabinet door, water jug nearest the bathroom wall. There’s a space under the water jug that we don’t know what to do with. We thought about a wine rack, but it would only hold 3-4 bottles.

The more reasons I thank you for sharing the photos. That is a great cabinet and use of space. Many great ideas in there.

Thank you!

Sure! The website is https://www.plissescreen.com

We found them very easy to work with. Doug met with us in Austin to discuss options for installing the door. They can send you a mini sample door with a deposit that’s refunded when you return the sample.

Looks fantastic. That cabinet solves a lot of issues! When ours was added with the other work, I was wondering about a custom screen door. You just proved it IS feasible!

Thanks!

Check how big your opening is with the cabinet. Our screen door is 22” wide, which is about minimum. If we were starting over again, I think we’d make the cabinet a couple inches shorter so the door could be a little wider.

Very similar to what I've imagined for our 2010. I'd like to see the 3rd seat removed and add some useful cabinet space that can be accessed from the inside and outside. Screen door is a definite upgrade too!

Thanks for the inspiration. Please post pictures of before, during, after if you have time.

Thanks for your interest!

I’ll dig through our photo library and write posts on both mods. When they are done, I’ll share links.
