You are planning to make au gratin for 27 of your closest friends.

I have now oven-seasoned the Ukrainian devil three times. It performs acceptably but it is somewhat high maintenance at this early point in its life. I am reminded of why I did not choose cast iron for the first half-century of my life. It does take maintenance.

I also don't know how long it takes to get it into optimal seasoning - I suspect the YouTubers are overly optimistic, because you can follow their instructions to the letter and not get the same result. I have vivid memories of my family's cast iron performing like Teflon, but by the time I came along, it had already been in daily use and seasoned for about 25 years.

Anyway, I intend to press on with it, because there's no other substance that can be used with EVERY cooking heat source, including induction (my husband keeps wanting an induction cooktop, but I like natural gas).

It does require carrying more cooking oil than usual in the Interstate, as cooking oil becomes a cleaning agent as well as a foodstuff. And paper towels.

I was not sure on which one to get... will use them and see what shape/size works best for the AI... the others will end up being used at home.

Oh yes... I remember using olive oil in the wok and also the paella pan... was planning on using the same with these. And paper towels galore... forgot how many of those were sacrificed in the process...

Other brand propane cooking source

I have a 2015 interstate. My Outdoor cooking source came with a regulator. Can I remove this and attach hose or do I need a connector to match up house to regulator.

We gave up on hooking ours up to the low flow propane on the RV. We got an adapted hose and are using a portable propane take. The low flow was just taking way too long.

Magma in action. We have an unusual amount of time on our hands, and so we can really experiment with what this set-up can do. The Magma plus cast iron with the removeable handle is a powerful combination - we have even been baking bread in it.

Anyone who is curious about what I've got going on in the photo below is encouraged to read The Propane Education of Interblog in the Airstream LP Gas child forum.

I am now the unwitting owner of five propane tanks reflecting four different configurations (two 20 lb., one 10 lb., one 5 lb., and this 4.5 lb.). Unwitting because I did not know this one existed until earlier today. That, my dears, is a boat tank. Well, it's not exclusively sold to boaters, but they need their portable propane tanks not to tip over (think rough seas), so they use squat tanks like this one instead of the taller tanks with base rings. I bought two of those conventional smaller ones before I discovered this, which almost echoes a gomboc. Weebles wobble but they don't fall down: I placed this, freshly filled, on the floor of my minivan, drove all over the place, and it did not budge.

For residential use, having a flat-bottomed tank is not all that important. But I intend to set up an off-grid hot water washing station in the woods. I need a tank that can sit on an uneven forest floor without rolling away.

Live and learn. Plus if Wachuko can have five au gratin pans, then I can have five propane tanks. Even if all either of us requires is one.

John - are you using the 6' LP hose that came with it? I just got mine and wondered if that was far enough away from the AS to work. Thanks.

The distance from the AS is needed in my opinion. Too close and you can mess up the side with grease splatter or heat things up causing discoloring.

I am making some aluminum AS inspired tables to carry the grill and then a 10' extension hose to connect to the trailer propane supply located at the front of my trailer. This allows me lots of hose to setup my table under the awning and work undercover when it rains.

Within the context of the Magma grill, I forgot to mention above that a hose with these specs is needed to connect a larger BBQ bottle. One pound to twenty pounds:

Mine came with a 10 hose. I also purchased a 17 hose to use with my Outland propane fire pit. I have Also used the 17 hose for both the Airsteam Weber grill and fire pit with no problems. Give you plenty of distance from the RV.

Same. I’ve even hooked the hoses up together—no issues (I’ve modified whatever hoses/propane appliances I needed to be locking quick connects so I can use any hose with any appliance or couple hoses).

I also had my Globetrotter’s propane quick connect changed to be on the patio side. No idea why it comes stock on the driver’s side—you lose like 2’ of hose run running it over to the patio. It’s useful on that side when I’m running the Honda generator off propane, but I’m eager to keep that relatively close to the trailer. For the fire pit and the grill—I want it on the patio side.

Where did you purchase the 17er? That would make sense.
