Airstream Interstate 2012 - Key doesn't turn in ignition switch

Hello all. A few months back, my mom tried to start her 2012 Airstream Interstate and the key wouldn't turn in the ignition. After trying for about 20 minutes the key finally engaged. This has been an intermittent problem and was supposedly repaired by Mercedes a couple of months ago.

When my mom took the Interstate to Mercedes, they hooked it up to the computer and told her that the tester found code error "9005.". They said the EIS control module needed replacing, in addition to the steering lock and ignition switch.

Mercedes supposedly replaced parts and fixed the problem. Unfortunately, my mom had problem starting the van again tomorrow.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their Interstate?

I had this with a minivan we owned. The key would not turn and the ignition switch was replaced. The mechanic advised me to stop carrying so many keys on my key ring. Over time the weight of the other keys on the van’s key caused wear and possible metal fragments to ruin the switch.

There is a single key on a lanyard. I will check the weight of the lanyard. Thank you :-)
