One of the Airstream 190's key features was that it had a standard van shell that helped with body integrity. This is one reason why it was just a fiberglass cap and an Airstream interior. It appears that it was based on the Falcon B Van design.
One idea for the B Van was a vehicle that could tow Airstream trailers. That idea appears to have been dropped as the latest ideas tends towards a class C type. This is a van chassis with a custom body. The rear axle to hitch point distance on a Class C gets to be rather long to support decent trailer towing. And even the AS 190 is rather heavy for a good tow vehicle.
The last I heard was that the latest attempt at a B Van replacement (I saw a picture somewhere but don't have a link) would have required something like a $120,000 price tag due to the shell manufacturing requirements. So that one didn't get much past the prototype stage.
It also appears that Ford is doing some things with its E series vans that may promote some interesting changes in the class B and C RV's
