Actually after giving some more thought - I think all modern A/C system have compressor restart time delays built into their controllers. The best people to know the required compressor delay are those who make the A/C unit.

Considering that I don't think the Micro-Air EasyStart needs any time delay.

MIKE - Yes, per Dometic, the. CCC2 controller has Load Shed and Compressor Delay

Air Conditioning On Generator

For those of us that don’t have CCC2 type controllers, the MicroAire is a great accessory and safety for the compressor...just sayin’

Thanks for everyone's input. The Easy-start was wired correctly and I trained it after installing it. However, I trained it on shore power and not on the Onan so maybe that was a mistake. I'll give Micro-air a call to see if they have any suggestions. As for the EMS tech support, our 2011 has an Intellitec brand and I don't know if they are still in business. Since the Onan used to run the A/C adequately, I may have to remove the Easy-start if I can't get this figured out. There are such great reviews on the product that it's pretty disappointing that it doesn't seem to work on our rig.

Might want to check voltage and frequency on the Onan. If it’s a bit off, the EasyStart might decide there is a problem with the generator.

You did the right thing by training the EasyStart on shore power. You have a different EMS so I don't have any other suggestions. Micro-Air will give you some suggestions as they are pretty responsive.

Hi

All it takes is one really obscure brand of AC that nobody has ever heard of to really ruin things for the Easy Start guys. "Your gizmo trashed all our AC's !!!!" is not the sort of publicity they want to see pop up.

A good suggestion and easy to test. My gasoline Onan 2800QG appeared to be running fine and seemed to power the roof ac with no problems. However, after buying a Progressive Industries protector, I tested the generator current at an internal outlet using an adapter. It showed it was actually running a bit slow and about 15volts/8hz low while under load. Low enough to harm the ac? Let's just say I had to replace it.

Good idea to check you generator with a Progressive unit. I connected my Progressive EMS-30 hard-wired unit, with remote display, after the transfer switch so I can monitor and protect the power from shore or generator. My Onan LP generator was solid at 115V and 61Hz under load.

been reading through all of the posts on running a/c through generator and it's making my head spin! Bob, like you we just need to run the a/c on generator for relatively short times-like when we are out for lunch etc and need to run a/c for dogs. Only other thing we had running was the fridge. Is the simple answer just to turn off fridge?

Turn off the fridge? No way. Something must be incorrectly configured or just bad if you have to turn off the fridge for the A/C to work!!

Hi DOGMOBILE1 - You need to give us some more info on the issues running A/C on your generator.

I read your related post of 7/3/2019 in the Generator / Inverter Issues thread - quoted below to bring everyone on the same page:

Your previous stated issue does not seem to make sense to me. If you are running the generator and A/C fan is running, but not the compressor, then the generator is putting out power to run fan. The inverter does not provide power to the A/C on the Interstates, unless your rig has been re-wired. Resetting the generator and inverter should not be related to the issue of A/C compressor not running.

First basic question does your A/C run OK on 102VAC shore power?

Does your Interstate have the Precision Circuits Inc Mini-PCS (aka EMS) similar to that shown in the attached image of the Mini-PCS wiring diagram?

I you have this device and your A/C fan runs on the generator, but the compressor never starts to give you cool air it could be caused by the Mini-PCS. The compressor load might be exceeding the setting of the GEN mode of the Mini-PCS of18-20A. This condition sends a load shed signal, blue lines in attached diagram, to the A/C unit to prevent the compressor from running.

This is the essence of the problem on my Interstate. To work around it I turn OFF all the 120VAC circuit breakers (CBs), except the MAIN and A/C CBs. This disables the Mini-PCS and allows my A/C to run just fine on the Onan LP Generator in my 2013 Interstate.

Share some more info and we collectively might be able to help you.
