4WD Sprinter to be available

Of course this doesn't mean that Airstream will consider building an Interstate on the 4WD platform, but the new-platform Sprinter is going to be available with 4WD in medium- and long-wheelbase models, according to Autoblog.

There are some up-fitters out in California who won't be happy, since they do 4wd conversions of the Sprinter vans.

I thought I read that it wasn't coming to the US.

A MB 4x4 Sprinter is not really news. They have been available in other markets for many years. This article and associated MB news release is for the European market. It remains to be seen if MB USA will import the 4x4 Sprinter. I think a factory option would be cheaper than the after-market up fitters doing the conversions now. I find it interesting that 4x4 vans are also not available from Ford or GM. Weird in a country full of 4x4 vehicles. If you want a 4x4 van you have to have it added by an up fitter.

I just got some info from a dealer that it looks pretty certain MB will import the 4x4 Sprinter in late 2014 as a 2015 model.

4WD Sprinter to be available

I hope Airstream builds an Interstate on the 4x4 chassis. That would be awesome If not, I'm sure Sportsmobile will!

I know of at least three B190s that have had 4x4 conversions done. I don't know if it's possible on the Mercedes chassis, but if you seriously want four wheel drive, that's an option to check out. If it's possible, it's probably cheaper than buying a new one!

There are some upfitters in California that do 4×4 conversions of Sprinters, but I haven't heard of them doing it to a Sprinter class B motorhome, only to passenger/cargo models. Given all the extra equipment a Class B carries under the floor that a plain-Jane Sprinter doesn't have, there's no guarantee that they could find room for the transfer case.

The Outfitter in California and one in Oregon has indeed converted class B sprinters rv conversion
And yes, according to article last week in RV Business, the sprinter 4X4 IS coming to North America which utilizes Mercedes installed parts, unlike the after market conversions which used Dodge truck 4X4 parts and takes two weeks and in the neighborhood of $25 grand last I checked
