2021 Interstate GL Smart Shunt Install Help

2021 Interstate GL 4x4 w/ Lithium Tech Package

I have a Victron Smart Shunt 500 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that I need to install.

Before I dig in, has anyone installed this on a similar rig? From my research, I've heard 3 different solutions: install underneath van at the batteries; install under passenger seat by the inverter; or install under passenger cup holder where the negative cable is apparently connected to chassis.

Thanks in advance for any detailed direction or guidance!

Hi

That version of the shunt has the Bluetooth in with the shunt. If you put it under the van with the batteries, it will be shielded by the van. Range (unless you are crawling under the van ) will be very limited. Also the device is not very tolerant of road crud.

If both the inverter negative *and* battery negative hook in at the cup holder, that would be ideal. I would make sure that's the case before mounting there though ....

I’m actually having this exact product installed on my 2021 GL on Wed by Airstream service shop + will let you know where they decide to put it. I’m not sure yet what they’ve decided. I also reached out to Victron to ask them what their recommendation is. Will share once i get it setup. Tx UncleBob for your thoughts. Helpful as always.

They are supposed to be placed right after the battery bank on the negative side and before any systems or loads, red goes to the positive terminal on your battery bank.

Hi

Circuit wise that's correct. Mechanically, they can go just about anywhere. You just need the right size wire to make the connection.

I have same rig as you except GT instead of GL, and just purchased smart shunt and left with my dealer to install while doing some other maintenance/warranty work. Adviser said they had never installed one but they would figure it out. Could you share where your dealer ended up mounting and how things have worked out? Thanks.
