2020 Airstream Interstate 19 Rear Lounge Sofa Not Reclining

Both Ottomans work fine, but when I try the switch for the "Lounge" it does nothing. No sounds, no movement - nothing.

Any suggestions? All other electronics seem to work fine. Was working fine a week ago (or so) - but all of a sudden nothing. I'm not even sure where to start looking.

Thanks for any help.

Have you checked fuses?

Hi Maggie - I did a visual inspection, and at first thought it would show up on the c-zone warnings. But I'm not so sure now - those (the ottomans and lounge) are not controlled via the c-zone controller.

Looking at the electrical diagram, I see connected to M-5 (Lounge on M-5a). I assume this is just wiring.

The sofa and jump seats are on 10-amp CB #2 and not on the main bank of fuses. I believe this is a self-resetting CB.

If all three are not working, I would suspect the CB. If only the couch is not working and the jump seats work, then I would suspect the couch switch. There are two motors according to the schematic. Unlikely both would fail.

I may have found something - I found this strangely disconnected wire (not orange/black as according to the electrical diagram, but maybe?).

Any idea where this goes and why/how it is disconnected?

Past the lounge switch, both wires are the same color because the polarity changes depending on how you activate the switch. They are both orange on mine, also (or were before I converted to twin beds.) That connector should plug into a pigtail attached to the motor (or did on mine.)

Thanks,

Turns out it wasnít that plug (guess that is to just connect something else?), just the connection of split off of that plug to the lounge motor somehow just came unconnected at the wire crimp. Connect the two wires a voila.

Congratulations on the fix. Not all are that simple. I just hope if you were home in Austin that you were able to work on it in the shade or indoors.

Haha. Not in Austin right now. Up in Summit County Colorado so weather is more suitable to work on it outside. Wasnít fun not having the bed for a night though up near Rocky Mtn Natl park. Low there was 35 and had some Moose stop by and try and mess with the dogs!

"before I converted to twin beds"
Hi John,
Any chance you could post a pic or give a little info on the way you did the change?
Thanks

I have converted two AIs to twin beds. The first was my 2014.5 Lounge. The most recent was my 2018 GT. I posted photos and descriptions of both conversions on this forum. You should be able to do a search for them.

In capsule form, I removed the sofa and jump seats, built up the cabinets with wood strips all around to match the highest point underneath which was the water heater in the 2014.5, installed 27" x 74" 3/4" plywood beds, installed mattresses that use standard AI twin sheets, and installed the bed extensions rotated 90 degrees to serve as headboards. I installed marine deck hatches to provide access to the electrical area and low-point valves. I used removed laminated material from under the jump seats to finish things nicely. Took me a week, working alone.

First photo is of the 2014.5. Second photo was of the 2018 during conversion. Third photo is the 2018.

Best modification ever! Feel free to PM me if you have questions.
