2017 interstate step not extending
My step will not go out unless I remove and replace the fuse. The fuse is not blown and the step retracts when I start the engine. Thoughts?? Cheers

I had a corroded connector on the switch. Fixed that and the step worked great.

In my model there's a cubby hole just under the jump seat. Or toward the rear of the area where the door opens and closes.
Check out this post it may help.

My step is not working also. Mine just seems dead. Not making any noises at all. BTW where is the step fuse?

Just left the Mothership this morning. They replaced my inoperative step on my Lounge. Always great to visit Jackson Center. Took the tour of the coach plant before we left this morning.

Awesome tour isn't it? We did it last month on our way to Kentucky. Funny thing is that I met Boxster1971 there as he was there for the tour as well on the same day - small world.

Thank you very much. I checked the fuse and its good. If you solve your problem please post your findings. I am unable to find anything in the manual about the step or in the diagrams. I'm totally at a loss why mine stopped working. Before it died the step worked sporadically a couple of times and then just stopped working altogether. Frankelcid88 did a great writeup on his repair which might help you. He has the same model year. I plan to remove
my step as he did.

Orlik, before you try that and maybe you have done this already - have you checked the magnet on the door? We had the same exact problem with ours and I had to adjust ours and it has been working fine ever since. A quick way to check this is with a magnet on the coach side. If it works, then you need to adjust the door side. Again, maybe you've tried this but wanted to save you some time before you took the step apart. Franks mod is on my list of things to do along with the generator hose that I'm going to do soon.

StogieMan, thanks for the tip, however the step did not operate when placing the magnet near the switch. I did hear a faint noise (which could have been a relay) each time I passed the magnet across the reed switch. It could be a motor or control board problem. I feel confident that its not a 12v problem although there is no easy way to check. The fuse is good and there has not been anything unusual happening in the RV.

You may want to get under the van at the steps to watch and listen when someone else holds the magnet over the switch for 30 second and then removes the magnet. If you hear a motor turning or see something turning but not moving the steps, it may have a stripped out "clutch" inside the unit. It's pretty quiet when that happens, but when we had that issue we could still hear the motor running if we listened carefully. Since nobody services the step unit we had to replace it. Expensive and took several months for the dealer to get a new unit for our van. In the meantime we physically yanked the step out when we wanted it, and shoved it back in before leaving.
Of course, it's also possible the magnetic reed switch has failed?

Thanks Rocinante, I'll give it a try. I did try pulling the the step out as you did but it will not budge an inch. There is no easy way to troubleshoot this thing so my only recourse is to take it someplace to replace or pull it out myself and hope its a relatively easy fix. I'll try pulling it out first as Frankelcid88 did in his post. I'd sure like to know where the control board is on a 2017 model. Do you or anybody have any ideas on where it might be located?

Orlik, there is a pic on the third post of this thread. Not sure if you've read this thread yet but hope it helps.

So access was easy. I did not think Airstream would put a module that might need replacing behind the screen. My unit has a screen so it appears I'm going to have to remove the stationary screen get access. What a pain. The OP you reference has a 2015 and more than likely my controller is in the same location. Thanks again for sending me this info.
