2016 Interstate Handbrake Cover

Hi all,

recently the back portion of the plastic cover for the handbrake fell off. I checked it out and saw that a plastic clip that attaches the cover was broken so there was nothing to hold it on to the handbrake mechanism.

So with part number in hand I ordered a new one. When it came I noticed that the new cover was quite a bit larger in length that the old cover. See the photo below. No way will the new cover fit, it's just way too big. So I looked at the bottom portion of both parts and saw that the old part looked like it had been trimmed to be shorter and conform to the floor profile.

Has anyone else had this happen? Did I have the wrong part #? Did Airstream trim the cover piece to fit?

Anyway, before I use the old part as a pattern for the new part and begin trimming I just wanted to check in to see if any of you noticed this when replacing the handbrake cover. If so, and you trimmed the part to fit, what tool did you use for the trimming?

Thanks

Based on what you've said, it's likely that Airstream modifies the cover to fit.

I recently added some electrical circuits to our Interstate by tapping into the fuse block under the driver's seat. As part of this task I needed to temporarily remove the floor area in/around the parking brake. On our 2010 Interstate, Airstream added flooring (plywood) between the two front seats. I'm guessing that area of the floor needed to be raised in order to make it flush with the flooring in the RV side of the vehicle.

So... it seems that since the floor was raised over an inch (or so) it's likely Airstream found it necessary to trim the plastic cover on the hand brake.

Nvestysly,

thanks for the reply and information. So using the old cover as a pattern, I trimmed the new hand brake cover using a jigsaw and the cover fits perfectly!

We went for leather as a replacement for the plastic one.

That looks great! Did you have it made, make it yourself or order it already made?

It's been awhile and I don't recall where I purchased it. If you search for 'sprinter hand brake cover' you should see several vendors to choose from!
