Pup takes on Airstream & loses!

My German Shorthaired Pointer, Shebea, was playing in the yard with my granddog, Hooch (I don't have any grandchildren yet, so she'll have to do for now!) the other day. She ran under the trailer while playing "keep away" with a big stick. Shebea came flying out from under the trailer when Hooch came after her & really bonked her head under the stairs that were in the out position. My daughter ran over to see if she was alright when she laid down after the bonk. Blood was spurting out of her ear! Somehow she cut it near the stair (I think it was probably the piece of fake banana wrap that is under the stair). Well, she had to be put under & stitched up. She cut all the way into her cartalidge! $280 dollars later, she's home, healthy, and really teed off that she has to wear a cone for 12 days! One more story for the Airstream injuries!

Poor baby! They hate the cones but I'm glad she's ok.

Ouch! Poor pup!

My theory as owners is that our sole responsibility is to keep them from killing themselves, and their job is to find new and more creative ways to do it!

What a beautiful saying, WILDRTEXAS. Your pup, Taylor, was one lucky dog.

Hi, all four of the dogs that I owned had to be "Cone Heads" [that's what we called them] at least once in their life, but I never got off that cheap. [$280.00]

You know, when Eddie (on Frazier) kept barking after having had a "procedure" while wearing a cone, Frazier complained to Martin that he was trying to sleep and asked that he (Martin) keep Eddie from barking and instead he put a megaphone on him. I remember that scene every time I see a dog with an "Elizabethan Collar" around his head.

Also, when my Sulley was a puppy he went into my son's room and stuck his head into the waste can and the flapper lid got stuck around his head...I couldn't help but ROITFL'ing as he ran out of my son's room shaking his head not knowing why this thing was stuck around his neck like one of those cones.

You could have asked the vet for an extral collar for your grandpooch so Shebea wouldn't feel so all alone in her recovery.

Well, I didn't actually get off that cheap. After I posted the story of her ear, Shebea decided to trap a bunch of bees or some kind of stinging insects in her cone. What more fun is there than having your prey captured right next to your face!? She blew up like a balloon & had to go back to the vet (the emergency one no less) for some shots to take down the swelling. We keep benedryl in the house now. Dopey dog! Gotta lover her though

Hi, two of my dogs were able to get around having a cone; My fur ball was able to stretch her long neck all the way around the cone and get to her tail. My Beagle figuered out that if he hit the doggy door fast and hard, it would knock his cone off.

Oh no! Not the "cone of shame"(from the movie "Up"). I love that movie!

I hate those dang e-collars/cones! I saw these alternatives a couple years ago and thought they'd be better. Too bad my vets have never had them on hand. I should just order one to keep in the pantry but am worried that it would *jinx* my pups.... Course, on the other hand, when I am prepared, nothing happens. I'll have to think more about these opposing thoughts.
