beachless dog?

Maybe I have too much canine blood, but why wouldn't the dog go to the beach with you?

Ditto that thought. We only go to beaches that are dog friendly. We have 2 Samoyeds and one of them loves the water and the other doesn't.
Mind you, neither my wife or I can see the point in laying out in the sun and getting crispy.
When we go to the beach it's to play in the water with our dogs.
I know they can take up your day, but so can kids and I wouldn't have left them in the trailer with the A/C on.

Don't do it. You can always find reasonable accommodations that are worth the price of you not worrying. Re high kennel fees in resort areas, look to drop the dog off on the way. To wit, several weeks ago I drove to see my son graduate from the U of Minnesota. Looked up overnite kennel prices in Minneapolis and suburbs, all started at $52 (for a cage!!) and up per nite. So googled places in St. Cloud about 60 miles west, and dropped her off at a vet-owned/operated kennel for about $20/nite on the way there...picked her up several days later. Well worth not having to worry. jon

Not that we depend on it but most current generation fantastic fans now offer a pet mode that will open the lids and revv up the fan speed at a preset threshold. Iirc one csn retrofit all models except the wireless versions.

I would say it depends on what you mean by warm. We have left our cats for a few hours in our Airstream on warm days (like a max temperature in the mid-80s in dry climates) without air conditioning with the blinds closed and fans on. Before we did so, we tested on a few occasions how hot the trailer gets in full sun on a warm day. While it gets warm, it certainly doesn't get dangerously hot like a car. The temperature monitoring system is a good idea but at least in the places we visit, we wouldn't want to rely on having a cell signal. I personally wouldn't leave our cats on a day that is warmer than mid-80s even with air conditioning as I wouldn't want to take the risk.

Another issue with campers leaving dogs in trailers:
Sometimes the dog wants to go, too.
He gets separation anxiety being left in the trailer by himself.
Sometimes lonesome dogs bark incessantly disturbing other campers.
There is nothing the other campers can do but listen to the dog bark- all day- until the owner gets back to the campsite- sometimes many hours later.

Our lab/chow mix is 95lbs big. He travels everywhere with us. If we leave him at home or in the A/S while we attend meetings or go to church, he remains calm. When boarded at a kennel he is traumatized worse than a trip to the vet.

We leave him with the a/c running in the house and A/S. He is always glad to see us when we return, but he is not traumatized by being left alone in familiar surroundings.

He does not bark when left alone this way unless someone knocks or tries to get in. We do appreciate the link to a temperature monitoring cellular system as that will give us a nice measure of safety.

If barking becomes a problem we have a "Bully Dog" bark collar he responds to very quickly. It warns the first bark with a buzz. The second bark stung him a bit but now all we have to do is put the collar on and he remembers not to bark at all.

It seems it's mostly small breeds that bark a lot.
High pitched yappy bark.
Big dogs seem to bark less and for a real reason- like to speak- say hello- hey throw the ball- or say someone is at the door.
Sometimes it seems big dogs don't bark other than that.

That's what I said when my last dog died... then two weeks later a puppy showed up. Now he's my best friend.

We use Dog Vacay service when we travel and have been pleased with the sitters we have found. Check them out....works for us.

We were just at a rally in Memphis and lots of doggies left in trailers whilst the owners went on a 3 hour tour (not that tour). One person stayed behind to tend all the trailers/pets and YES, the power was out for the 3 hours whilst the owners were gone; outside temp was 90+. Luckily the caretaker was excellent with the pets. none damaged

I'm sorry, but I have to be able to leave my trailer for a few hours while the dog is with me. I can't take him with me everywhere. And I love my dog.

We use the ConnectSense Temperature & Humidity Sensor (Amazon) as well as a Nest in our Airstream. You can set the temperature sensor up to phone home as little as every 5 minutes and set rules for alerts. It runs on DC power (as does our networking equipment) so in the event of a power failure it will still alert us if the temperature rises. Same goes for the Nest with smoke/CO. Obviously it's not 100% fool proof but it's a huge step in the right direction.

I have used Temperature Alert for monitoring both power loss and temperature when we leave our cat in the Basecamp with air-conditioning. You pay only for the months you use it by pausing and unpausing the service.

As per KJRitchie we leave our dog with 2 fantastic fans running (1 exhaust and 1 intake) and have done this many times . We didn't hike with friends recently due to the AS being in a sunny spot and didn't want to chance the heat that day, but that was an exception (No AC power available) we usually find a good spot. We try not to travel with him if we expect to be in high heat areas he stays home with "Auntie" ...LOL

Our dog is going on 12 and has travelled all over 3 countries and he is going to be the last one until we spend less time travelling.... also to many restrictions.

We also do a lot with helping out street animal in Mexico... which is a great way for people to get pet time without it being full time!!

We leave both dogs in our AS for up to four hours, never longer. We run both AC set at 73 degrees, and run the one fantastic fan. We also have a Samsung camera set up connected to a hotspot on our Droid Tablet which connects to cell. Data is used only when I view the camera for a few seconds each hour. I also have it set to notify me when there is movement in the trailer, so if the dogs start playing or something I know it. There is also a sound setting so I can turn the camera on and I can hear if the ACs are running or not.

Seems to work so far, but always looking for alternatives.

Bud

As mentioned above in my earlier post, I have used Temperature Alert http://www.temperaturealert.com/land...FZcdgQodAc4MJg. It's a great company, and you can pause/unpause the service (so you are paying only for the months you actually use it).

Violet - you mentioned you have a Nest thermostat in your Airstream. I was under the impression that the wiring and voltage of Airstreams are not suited for Nest installations. I would love to know how you installed it, as we are big Nest fans in our home. Thanks in advance, Joe
