I know, it's so hard to guess at what's going on inside. Sometimes she's her upbeat perky self, and sometimes she mopes around and pants like something is distressing her, and that's when I really get worried. But if it's snack time she's always right there. Vet says as long as she's keeping food down and seems to be acting normal most of the time to just keep at it.

From dealing with cancer patients, Generally what seems to happen is several good days followed by a bad day. Then Maybe a few good days, followed by a bad day. Eventually a good day will be followed by a bad day, then more bad days than good.
Good luck with Alki, we're keeping her in our thoughts.

Steph and David, I, like many others, didn't like seeing your thread on Alki come up. I feared the worst, but I'm glad she is doing OK and is her old self most of the time. Just give her a lot of treats and everything she likes. She'll like that and so will you, knowing you are giving her everything she wants or needs. We spoiled Miss Kitty and she loved it until she said goodby, after 3 years. (I think she played us for awhile, smart cat)

Alki is officially TWO YEARS since her cancer treatments ended. It's been amazing having her still going like the energizer bunny. There are good days and bad days, but still more good than bad. I wanted to share a couple cute pictures of her I took yesterday. The first one is when I called her over for petting, and the second is after I asked her if she'd like a cookie - I love that perky-ears-head-tilt thing she does

Hooray!!!!
Congratulations to you and Alki!!! I know what that heart ache and worry is like. Just yesterday my Logan celebrated his 2 year anniversary against the battle of cancer too!
We are in a very elite group - dog owners who have been given the gift of more YEARS with our fur babies after a cancer diagnosis. I know how lucky you are.
Logan and I send you many furry hugs!

Yay for Logan too! It seems like a lot of us have had to deal with cancer in our pets recently. I'm glad it's gone so well for Logan as well. I have to say at this point I'm very happy with the results. Two years seems like a significant period of time considering the treatment.

Sad news today. Alki's cancer finally caught up with her, and this afternoon she made her last trip to the vet. It was very hard because she was bright eyed right to the end. In fact yesterday I posted to my blog that she seemed to still have a bit of spunk, and even came outside and enjoyed the great weather. But this morning she woke up with one leg swollen, and the vet said it was a sign the cancer had finally blocked something. We were able to let her go with her resting peacefully on my lap.
She was almost 15, and made it almost three years since her cancer diagnosis. She was a great dog and we loved her very much. It's going to be very odd without her sitting between us at the dinner table, or coming to me in the morning for a hug.

I am so sorry for your loss. Alki was a very special friend and thanks to you she had 3 additional years to share her love with you.
Rest in peace Alki.

We've all been pulling for Alki since she was first diagnosed...hoping for the best.
You have done a wonderful job taking care of her and giving her a loving, happy home. We are so sorry to hear she finally lost the good fight. RIP, little friend. We're thinking of you, Stephanie...

So very sorry about this Stef.
Two short years ago our corgi insisted on my presence after I escorted her into her rug at the vet, after I parked the truck. Only to have me carry her onto the exam table...
Best dog ever. Tears still rim my eyes.
Peace dear Alki...

Hey Steph,
Sorry to hear about Alki's passing. Pets bring much pleasure and losing one can really hurt.

I am so very sorry for your loss of a dear dear friend. They are with us such a short time, but give us such pleasure. Got some very elderly wee beasties here that I know will leave us too soon. I cry for you and Alki. I cry for what will surely come for us also. Better to have loved these creatures and lost them, than to not have ever known the unending love they gave back to us.

Steph, I'm so sorry about Alki. You and Dave gave her such amazing care for her whole life. I know you received back even more love and happiness than you gave her. Rest in peace sweet Alki.

I am so sorry to hear of Alki's passing. Our pets are such an important part of our lives that they are not pets, but rather family members. Take comfort in knowing that you gave Alki a wonderful life full of love and happiness.
