Four legged furry family members
We just returned from a wonderful Airstream motor home trip from Washington State to Bar Harbor Maine. We had a great time and many great memories in state parks from sea to shining sea right up to New Hampshire. Seems New Hampshire people have a problem with our little Yorkshire terrier Winston. They didn't even want to meet him, they don't want any dogs in that state park, (campground) not traiIs or historic sites on leash or not on leash.
So they turned a couple in there sixties out into the night refusing us a camp spot because we have a little ten pound dog..
We don't think people in the state parks system in New Hampshire understand what our four legged fury family members mean to us.
We hurried through the state not even stoping to buy gas.
Just thought you would want to know.

Hi, we just returned from a cross country trip similar to yours. We were told that Connecticut campgrounds don't allow dogs. We stopped at a State Park and I saw a sign stating that pets/dogs are not allowed in the park from March 1st to September 30th. That pretty much covers camping season there. We took our little dog and moved on.

Don't camp in those CT anyway due to other regulations the state has. But, nice to know thanks for posting. As to NH that is a surprise. We travel with two Labs., mostly out West but getting there and back we have not encountered any issues.

Is it all campgrounds, or just the State parks?
We were out there a few years ago, and did not have problems finding campsites that allowed Lily, but we seldome stay in State Parks anywhere because they tend to be more expensive than Federal or PA.

I may have to take a trip to those states with my hearing service dog to see what they will do.

Even some COE campgrounds don't allow pets which doesn't seem to be the norm. E.G Battle Run Campground in West Virginia, on Summersville Lake.
Facility Details - BATTLE RUN, WV - Recreation.gov
Got to plan ahead when you have a pet.
All it takes is pet owners not picking up the poopies, not keep them on leash, and keeping them quiet to spoil it for the responsible pet owners.

"Pets Allowed" is the first thing I check.
I would like to go to the Airstream Park in VA but we have four Boston Terriers and that is above their limit.

The reason many places don't allow dogs is because of the behavior of a minority of dog owners. People who don't clean up after their dogs, who allow them to bark endlessly, who chain them outside to snarl at passers by, who allow them to run loose...
I'm a dog guy, as you can see by my avatar, but I understand why some places don't allow dogs in any form. It will only get worse if dog owners don't help clean up the behavior of that minority of owners.

Liberty is dangerous, so general liberty must be banned because of those who would abuse it, and for those who are offended by abuse of liberty and liberty itself.
In this current scenario, the majority is placed under the thumb of the minority.
Of course the right answer is to penalize those who abuse liberty and leave the responsible folks alone, but this is increasingly not the path taken, as an end result, the innocent are punished along with the guilty via "access denied".
I say this is un-American.

National Forest Campgrounds (such as Dolly Copp in the White Mountains) allow leashed dogs.

I was investigating a trip to the Boston, MA area. Looking for a split week between Cape Cod and Gloucester. I ran across the same issue. No pets at all. And many had no campfires also. This was both state parks and private campgrounds.

Mainly by seeing the cat sitting in the front or rear window looking out at them and smiling. We call our windows kitty television, because they can spend hours watching squirrels, birds, dogs, people and anything that moves.
So we sometimes close the blinds so we don't blow our Siberian cats cover.
Yes we have had people insist that no pets means even those that never leave the coach. I guess no goldfish or parakeets either.

That is why the wife and I normally stay at a KOA or Good Sam campsite, both are very dog friendly.

I have not yet encountered a park with a no pets rule.
I have seen "no pets in our cabins or hotel" but leashed pets are welcome in the campground.

You can think a few inconsiderate slobs for those attitudes and rules. I see them every time I go camping where pets are still allowed. Barking dogs and dog poop everywhere sure ruins the experience for every one else.

We've stayed at a variety of Federal, State, County, local municipality and private campgrounds; from The Gaspe to Alaska over at least 12 year period.
We've never been turned away because of our two dogs.

I have camped at several different places that did not allow pets. I always tell them I have an inside cat and have never been turned away. Honesty pays!
