Yeah, so this broke… any idea why?

Hello all,
Please have a look at the attached photo. Can anyone tell me why this washer holder thingamajig (sorry for the technical term) would break I found it while inspecting my rig before our next outing thanks in advance.

Hi

It looks like it rusted through. Leave a chunk of galvanized steel out in the elements for 40+ years (assuming it goes with the Argosy) and that sort of thing happens. It looks a bit like it was swaged together after plating. That would reduce the effectiveness of the galvanize in that area.

Without knowing what it came off of and where, that's about the only guess I can make.

Inside or outside?

Do you know what it was attached to?

Is this the spacer rivet for the washers in a hitch system? If so, I dont think those things last forever. but you need to be more specific.
