Weighing in: F150 Hybrid & 25' Serenity

My wife and I are headed out tomorrow for a long weekend trip and I thought this would be a good time to weigh the rig since we will be all loaded.

I'll use a CAT scale in Commerce City Colorado, a tongue scale I just bought and I will also contact Colorado State Patrol to see if one of their commercial vehicle inspectors will review the inputs. This last piece is a bit overkill but there tends to be a lot of opinions on the forums so I figured I'd have a professional review it.

I'll only be weighing the tow vehicle today since it's ready to go. Once we get the food and everything packed in the morning, we'll hit the scales again.

Tow Vehicle
2022 Ford Hybrid XLT 7.2kw 3.5L Powerboost 4x4 SuperCrew 10-Speed
3.73 ELECTRONIC LOCK RR AXLE
7350# GVWR PACKAGE
TRAILER TOW PACKAGE
INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONT
FX4 OFF-ROAD PACKAGE
SKID PLATES

GVWR: 7350
Front GAWR: 3750
Rear GAWR: 4150
Payload 1,600
Trailer Weight (distributing): 11,600
Tongue Weight (distributing) 1,160

Add-ons: Retrax Bed Cover

Cargo:
Wife and I
Weber BBQ
Computer Bag
*Since I have the hybrid, I don't have to lug around generator nor gas. I sometimes have fly fishing equipment but won't for this trip.

Hitch: 1,000/10,000 Weight Distributing Equalizer Hitch

RESULTS (WITH EQUILIZER HITCH INSTALLED 109LBS):
STEER 3560
DRIVE 2860
GROSS 6420

If your GVRW is 7350 and your gross vehicle weight is 6420 wouldn't your payload be 930 lbs? What is your total passenger weight? Our 25 ft Flying cloud adds 800 lbs to the total axel weights when using our Reese weight distribution hitch.

I would be interested in your scale results with trailer and both with and without WD.

You need, at minimum, two more CAT weights.
TV alone loaded for camping.
TV & AS on the scales without WD
TV & AS on the scales with WD set with the proper weight returned to the TV steering 'axle'.

It's best to use the lightest WD bars that will move the needed weight.

Our CAT numbers...
1200lb TW on a Sherline scale.
860lb receiver with WD set
560 to the FA
160 to the AS
720 moved with 1000lb WD Bars

Bob
🇺🇸

POI I did a MAX WD here to see if my WD bars had lost any poop...they had not and were just as capable as when new 17yrs ago.

I was basing on what the tire sticker inside the door states. My wife and I total 310lbs.

Thanks, Bob. The weight quoted in original post was TV fully loaded for camping with both my wife and in the cab.

Stop re-inventing the wheel. Use this worksheet then plug the numbers into their web app. It's not perfect but close enough.

Thanks. There is a very similar spreadsheet I downloaded from another thread on this forum. I reattached it here.

Beautiful day in Colorado!

I just went and topped off the propane and filled the fresh water.

My wife and I got the trailer all packed with a fridge full of food, clothes, starlink and made the bed.

As if on queue, my wife got called into a conference call so I decided to use the time to re-calibrate the Equalizer Hitch according to their instructions and use my new tongue scale to see where we are weight wise.

Re-calibration: Unhitched just under 37.25, hitched wo WD 37.75, hitched w WD just over 37.25. I'll take it.

Scale: New Simple Tongue scale gave me 3 slightly different weights on 3 different tries. 890, 870, 880. I'll settle on 880.

Hope to be on the road soon.

I should note a couple things because someone will ask.

The batteries on located in the center of the bed closer to the bathroom rather than the front. We took up the small cabinet that flips open.

Under the bed we also located a couple plastic boxes with dutch oven and our outdoor supplies.

Nothing is in the battery box on the tongue.

Under the dining room table are camping chairs and starlink in a hard suitcase/backpack.

Everything else is where you would expect.

I find the easiest solution to the above is owning a 2500.

Since my wife delayed us just long enough not to get on the road today, I unhitched and re-weighed the TV so all the weights are equal.

Not to be rude, but if you are having to worry about 50-60lbs then Don't do it!

Sometimes the risk is not worth the reward. It also has to do with stopping ability as well.

Here is my take, I had a 2017 F250 pulling my 25' international. I did not look at payload when I bought my 2023 f150 Powerboost Platnium 3 months ago. Big mistake, I am not going to worry about how much firewood I am able to load, or camping gear...bicycles etc. not worth the stress. My payload was 1355lbs. Heck my tounge weight for my Airstream is 833lbs. No way!

My result is my 2023 F250 will be here (on rail now) within two weeks. Again for me not worth my safety.

I really appreciate the input. I think I'll stick with what I have. It's within the safety guidelines and works well for the way we camp.

An excellent discussion on a forum dedicated to the 14th Gen F-150 that the PowerBoost (particularly the PB with the HD towing option) may have most or all the structural components of the F-150 Heavy Duty Payload Package raising the F-150 GW up to 7,800lbs.

I don't have the knowledge to verify these claims but a good argument was made that the PowerBoost may be able to handle more than 7,350 GW. It certainly has the power and torque for bigger loads. There were some observations that shifting the drive train aft to allow for the integral electric motor/generator may have figured into Ford's decision to limit the PowerBoost to 7,350lbs GW. But there is no doubt the PowerBoost with the HD towing package has structural modifications over and above the other ICE F-150's.

Hi Goldenchase. Do you have links to the discussion ? I have a vested interest!

Many thanks!
