For our tow vehicle, we are getting a Ford F250 Diesel pickup truck.

We will be going to a local dealer very soon to acquire this.

We need to know a lot of basics, especially what to ask for from the Ford Dealer for the setup of the truck.

When purchasing the truck, for our particular towing needs, what functional options should we be asking for?

I have been told about the need for a brake controller.

We want the heavy tow package. Is there any sort of special hitch package we should be asking for?

We would be very grateful for any advice we can get for making sure our towing setup is ideal.

Thank you so much!
Congratulation on your new Airstream. I also have a 28 ft FC that I tow with a 2020 GMC 2500 Denali HD with a 6.6 gas engine. Gas or Diesel is a personal preference. In reality you don’t need a diesel truck to tow 7600 LB fully loaded 28 ft Airstream. Just make sure you have the towing package from the factory and a high trim level that has all the options you may want.
Hope this helps. Happy travels.

Agree with what as been suggested.

If buying NEW a quick thing to check before you leave the lot........

The tow hitch receiver reducer. This can easily be taken/removed (slides in) before you drive away so make sure you have it.

Also, if you get a 2500 GMC or Ford 250 Super Duty make sure your hitch is a 2 1/2” To fit into the 3” receiver. Otherwise you would need to use a reducer from. 3” receiver to a 2” hitch.

Welcome Aboard 👍

See what you started....

With a 2500 you need no suspension 'up grades' or heavy duty anything.
With the modern petrol power plants, diesel is also not 'needed'.

More important...a capable WD hitch with sway control correctly set-up. Do NOT depend on the AS dealer to do it right. They don't often offer much of a choice on hitches. Do the research.

Disclaimer...we use a Hensley Arrow. 15 Seasons SFSG👍

Stream happy & good luck.
