My new 30' FC: I weighed it empty except for the full propane tanks; the tongue wt. using the new TW scale that I bought. (See above)
The TW. was 1200 at the screwjack. EMPTY!
The dry weight was an even 3000 KG. (6600 lb.)
A.S. said my TW should be around 850 lb. and "in no case over 1000lb."
When I went on my first trip (to Brockville) last weekend, my TW. was 995 lb. and the whole weight around 7600+lbs.
EVERYTHING worked as it should except that cheeep sewer hose that they gave me. One leaked, the other opened up and spilled 'crap' on my new shoes. Tch!

tongue weight

Thanks for all the input, I have an Eaz-Lift hitch with 1000lb bars that came with the trailer when we bought the trailer. The hitch is heavy no doubt about it. I was just wondering if I went to 1400lb bars(the next step up per eaz lift) if that would be a good choice? The trailer is level when hitched and bars set at the fourth link in the chain. The truck handles good no issues with that other than the ride on rough pavement seems to hit hard. Maybe I'm expecting to much of a smoother ride. Did have air bags on my first truck but did not put them on my 06 chevy duramax that I use now for towing the trailer.

The TW on my 14 Classic 27FB runs between 950 and 1100, per the Sherline scale measured at the ball; level, packed and tanks full. I can't explain the 150 lb variance, inasmuch as we usually carry the same stuff.

Using CAT scale, the fully loaded truck was 9820, and the combined weight was 17580; so, unless I'm really screwing up the math, the AS weighed in at 7760. It's GVW is listed as 9000. The next measurement I need to do is with the WD connected and disconnected, to see how much WD I'm actually getting...

I had a 2013 25FB International Serenity with a published tongue weight of 833 pounds. After the dealer installed the Hensley Arrow hitch and had full propane and water tanks, the tongue weight on their lot with the brand new trailer with a brief case inside was 1,150 pounds on the Sherline scale.

Later after loading and shifting stuff around, we saw 1,175 pounds camping ready.

We removed the factory 1,200 pound rated hitch on our 2012 Dodge 2500HD Cummins and replaced it with a Curt 15049 rated 2,550 pound of tongue weight and a 17,000 pound trailer which covers any current Airstream specifications.

question on your level ride

Switz,

I see you have an air ride leveling system on your tow vehicle how does that work with the wd hitch? I have an air bag system off my other chevy HD but I haven't put it on my 06 2500hd duramax. Could you give me some insight on how your set up works? Thanks

Where on the Airstream tongue did you position the Sherline scale, under the tongue jack or hitch coupler? With the Hensley hitch installed, it would be better to position the Shoreline scale under the Hensley stinger where it is attached to the truck's receiver, to get a more meaningful idea what weight is actually carried by the truck's receiver. The greater the distance from truck's receiver to the trailer's axles, the less weight the truck will carry.

It would be interesting to take measurements at these three positions (Hensley or ProPride hitch) to see the difference. I would do it but I don't have a need for a Sherline scale, I'm only interested in how much weight our Airstream adds to our truck after weight distribution is set. That weight can only be measured at a Cat (truck) scale, truck alone then with the trailer hooked up and w.d. set. Last measurement for our combo was 840 lbs added to the truck by our Airstream.
