I called Nina at Duraflap and she apologized that the flaps were made for 2011-2013 Explorers, not 2014-2016 where there's curvy areas in the wheel well. Sending the flaps back and looking for another flaps designed for my Explorer.

Gave accurate info. It turns out that I may be the first one with 2014-2016 Explorer that has different wheel wells than the previous years model. the Flat flaps would not fit anyway.

Installed our Rock Tamers back in 2013 with similar clearance - Sarasota FL to Alaska Caravan round trip with minimal dings. From the comments, I'm glad I opted for the black hardware!

I bought Rock Tamers before our trip to Alaska in 2006 and they did a good job. Inconvenient as heck, though. However, when we arrived in Dawson City after covering about half of the Top of the World Highway, which was mostly dirt, I had to go to a truck wash before I could unhook. Mud and grime was too thick to even unhook.
When I got home, I had to clean and paint the entire A-frame as it had been sand-blasted and flash rusted.
Since then, and traveling only in the US and Canada, I installed some WeatherTech mud flaps and have been astoundingly pleased at how well they have protected the rig under our normal conditions. And they fit my truck perfectly.
I will gladly sell my rock tamers cheap but have no interest in shipping them.
Pat

I started a thread of I Should have Would Have. Learned my lesson with two stone dings above the window shields in the Aluminum.
They now are mounted on the hitch. Made a nice simple roll around cart to mount them on when they are stored as they are attached to the shank. Harbor freight small furniture movers and some wood. The bad part!! My rear bumper back up collision sensors scream seeing the I just turn them off while attached now.

I agree but my F-250 had the Weather Techs and still the trailer took hits above the window stone shields. Had no issues with the F-150 and Weather Techs

Is it possible to add a few inches of thick rubber mud flaps to WeatherTech Mud Flaps? I am getting these tomorrow in mail.

One easy way to check if a set of mudflaps is going to protect the front of the trailer. Squat down so your eye height above the ground is near the bottom of the front edge of the trailer. Can you see the tire where it contacts the ground? If you can see the tire the rocks will hit the front of the trailer.
That's why Rock Tamers or equivalents make a difference. They are further from the tires/closer to the front of the trailer and will block that view and the rocks.

I purchased the Towtector, having a problem more centered around my 16’ Sport I have a Hensley CUB. My stinger ( Hensley terminology ) is too short and isn’t enough space to mount Towtector’s mounting bracket, I did adhere to Towtector online measurements for the product to be used, but found to be lacking with their instructions. Any case I am now faced with either returning Towtector or ordering from Hensley a longer stinger I am concerned since the new stinger is 29 lbs more than what I have now. Asking people with Towtector’s for advice. Thanks

SB, I just went through similar considerations with my Hensley. Last fall, I had my trailer lifted and needed to change out my stinger drop. Hensley was great in that they will exchange under warranty only have to pay for the shipping both ways.
I hit a snag with the new drop in that my RockTamers would not “fit” on the new stinger. It has to do with how Hensley builds the different drops. I had to go with the longer stinger.
With the longer stinger, I had to make other adjustments; electrical umbilical cord extension, chain extensions, and lengthen brake cable.
I don’t see any adverse issues with the added length. No change in hitching, towing, or backing. Two additional perks are more space when dropping the tailgate on the truck and the stinger makes for a nice step.
