Rear trailer hitch installation

Anyone out there install a rear trailer hitch for piggy backing a boat or small trailer?

The rear bumper barely has enough strength to support a heavy bicycle on a bike rack. Seriously doubt that it's strong enough for the tongue weight of a trailer.

Also, 'piggy back' towing another trailer behind the Airstream is not legal in many states.

I don’t know of any state where you can daisy chain bumper pull trailers. I have seen it with 5th wheels but they are considered “articulated” vehicles.

2017 3500 HD Dually. Haven't checked Louisiana law but have seen bumper pull RV with golf carts, side-by-sides and smaller boat. Hopefully they are pulling with a hitch and not the bumper. Haven't removed any bottom side covers to see what the frame underneath looks like, but did have a rear tire blowout and the jack points are real close to the rear , and basically I picked the whole side of the trailer up. So there's something strong underneath there. Thanks.

Yes - there's a frame under there to the rear end, but it's not designed for holding any more weight on it than the trailer itself. Barely enough leeway for a lightweight bike rack and a couple of bikes.

Put too much weight on the rear of a trailer and you might find the frame bending downwards, pulling away from the body/shell of the trailer leaving you with the dreaded rear end separation.

Also, the tongue weight of a trailer on the rear of an Airstream is almost certainly going to result in a potentially dangerous situation due to the dynamics of loading. The worst place to carry weight in a travel trailer with regard to trailer sway is on the rear end. Add the extra weight and you could start a sway event, and then add a trailer behind it and you could see it whipping around like the tail of a dog.
