Propride Hitch Install (LP Tank Tray)

Installing Propride hitch. About half way done with the process. Doing it in little spurts when I have time and a bit of light at the end of afternoon. Going to finish it up this weekend when a friends helps with final hookup.

Anyway:

The UBolt for the cross bracket goes right underneath the LP tank tray cover. It looks like I can shim it up, and the bolts are long enough to put in the frame.
1) If anyone had the same issue what did you do?
2) Is there going to be a problem with the tank cover afterwards?

I remember that I had a problem with mine, but I don't completely recall the details. I do know that I had to mount the jacks farther back than recommended, 30" instead of 27" if I recall correctly. And I think the u-bolt was interfering with the tank cover, but I'm not sure. The tank cover rode up on the jack mounting plate. The only potential problem I can see is the threaded rod that is used to tighten the tank hold down bar and the tank cover may not be long enough to engage the locking knob. Mine wasn't threaded all the way to the bottom but I made it work by mounting it upside down. If and when this bubbles to the top of my priority list I will add some length to the threaded rod. I'll cut it off about 10" down and add 12" of new rod.

Actually got an answer from PP. Just put a hex nut under the tray for each bolt. That seems pretty simple and cheap. 4 bolts. About 5 minutes of work.

Is your tray bolted on? Mine is welded. That would have been great.

Mine is screwed on with 4 really small self-tapping screws that make me very nervous. Bigger ones are on the to-do list, as well as spacers.

My WD jack bases are a little further back, and the tank cover is not on straight, I think. When I replace the fasteners on the tank baseplate I’ll straighten this out better. Looks like the original install was by eyeball, not measuring for placement.

Mine is bolted on with pretty long bolts. I had to take tray off to install the PP hitch. I guess I’ll see how the tank cover fits. If not I bought a soft cover to go over the tanks. Doesn’t look as nice, but it will be functional.

Not relevant to the LP tray but another installation tip. Note, this might
not apply for newer ProPride hitches, mine dates to 2014.

On the curb side weight distribution (WD) jack, I found that it was
difficult to get to the inner leg of the WD jack u-bolt. It was directly
under the top lip of the battery compartment which made a straight shot with a socket to the nut on the u-joint a challenge. There was no left and right jack, the u-bolt holes in the jack pad drilled the same for both jacks.

For the curb side jack, I drilled holes in the corners that weren't drilled.
Now, the u-joints are mirror images of each other and fall in the same place
on the frame.

Also, I found that the frame was too narrow for the WD jack spacing of the
u-joints and had ProPride send me some spacers. They actually tipped to the side on me when I jacked up the bars, no matter how much I tightened the u-joints.

My LP try was bolted in with about 1" self tapping bolts. I went to Lowes and purchased 1" longer bolts and shimmed the LP tray up with large fender washers. I used thread lock when I reinstalled everything.

So my Propride hitch is installed. Glad that’s done. Haven’t test driven it yet. Was dark by the time I was done. But I used two hex nuts, 2 longer bolts, and used the 2 hex nuts under the tank tray with washers. Works great so far. Haven’t put the tank cover on yet since it was dark. But it worked so far.
