For 26U I'd asked many towing questions about F150 Eco, equalization, etc.
And I'd like the thank all those who provided input and advise.
As a newbie it's been a lot to study and learn - it's been interesting.
And after considering all options I finally decided what's right for me.
So I did it.
Traded my F150 Platinum Eco
for a new F250 Platinum TD
Tongue weight of 26U had me very worried with F150 1568 payload capacity.
Can the F150 tow safely - Yes, but only if VERY careful with weight.
Would I have been comfortable towing with F150? I decided - No.
I know lot's of folks tow with 1/2 tons and might argue otherwise.
I did find an F150 Heavy Payload that had HUGE payload capacity.
But I'd loose all the luxury of the Platinum (cameras mostly) that I love.
Ultimately it's about each individual's comfort level.
The F250 gets me:
- 450 lbs. more payload. Not a huge jump, but enough.
- A much heavier, more robust 7000 lb TV.
- Giant extendable tow mirrors.
- A little more technology (cameras, BLIS, etc).
In my mind the F250 is vastly more up to the task.
Yes, it's a thirsty, money eating beast.
More cost up front, more maintenance, more fuel, just more everything.
But towing can be get scary at times.
So for me, the F250 was really my best option.
And so the adventure continues...
