My Ram 3500 Order...

I ordered a Ram 3500 Limited Dually today. I figured I would go ahead and start a thread here so I can post updates as I receive them. Hopefully, it will be of some help to others considering doing the same thing. So here goes....

#1: Date 10/06/21 - Order Placed.

Hi

Did they give you an estimate of when they though it would come in? That's going to (likely) get a lot of discussion over the coming days, weeks, months, (hope not) years.

Why mention years? we have a Bronco Sport that may well make it a year past the order date. We are roughly at 10 months past order right now. It has been sitting in the desert since June waiting for who knows what.

I was told about 8 weeks. But, I just reset the clock this week by adding a few more options that I had overlooked.

My dealer has a Bronco. I think it is the Sport. They said they are not even allowed to sell it for 6 months.

My 2022 F-250 took exactly eight weeks. Ordered it mid July.

I was told based on the current orders arriving it could be as soon as 6 to 8 weeks or as long as 12 to 20 weeks. They said the factory would send me email updates as soon as it when into production. We all know based on the supplies issues there is no telling when it will arrive.

Yep, same exact thing they told me when I ordered..... We ordered our 2021 Ram 3500 Limited SRW back on 6 March 2021 and it arrived at the dealership on 1 July 2021.

Hopefully, your wait is not too painful.

Cheers.

Hi

All sorts of weird things can come up. Our F350 sat waiting for weeks at the local rail yard. Finding a truck to haul it the last 2 hours down the road (apparently) was not at all easy.

Congrats on the new order, I'm interested in watching this thread as it moves along.

I'm curious, just curious, as to why you ordered a 3500 dually to tow a 25' FC. I'm one for having more truck than is necessary so I'm just interested in your opinion on it.

Thanks! Here are my reasons....

1. I am so sick and tired of being restricted by my payload limit with my 1/2 Chevy High Country.

2. I am upgrading to a classic this year.

3. Since I never know what I will own 3 years from now I want this to be the last truck I have to buy. I am good with the truck being too much for now.

We take long trips. We just returned from a 2 month long trip. It will be nice to bring along some more items even with our current 25 footer.

Congrats!
Gasser or oil burner?(diesel)
You are going to love the truck! Be aware that because of the duality suspension, it will ride hard!
On mine, an oil burner, I run 65psi front tires, 55-60psi rear unloaded. Air the tires up on the rear to 65-70psi when towing. In another post, I had mentioned “Viair” pumps, they.are a bit expensive but well worth the money…. Flat to full pressure in a FEW minutes instead of 30 minutes.
With the truck, gas or diesel, you will be able to pull just about anything. Enjoy the truck. Rick

Diesel perfect!

Good choice.
Good choice on the diesel!
You will have several braking systems for your rig. Truck, trailer and exhaust. (Use the exhaust, it will slow you down considerably and save your service brakes)
Several years before I (settled?) on an Airstream?
I bought my dually….wanted a 5th wheel toy hauler.
Settled? on an Airstream because the neighbors had this trailer that NEVER moved, for several years.
This is how I am an airstream owner, like my truck, I WILL NEVER LOOK BACK!

Thing to remember about diesels!
1. Oil changes, 3 GALLONS of oil not 1.
2. Watch your DEF fluid!!!!!!
NEVER EVER EVER EVER mix it in your fuel!!!!!!
$$$$$$$$$$$$ to REPLACE!!! ALL of the fuel
systems in the truck!!!!!
3. 10,000 miles before the engine is broken in, not
2,000. Your fuel milage is going to STINK!!!
4. 300,000 to 400,000 miles before an engine rebuild
Or replacement! , I currently have 340,000 on my
clock……2005 Ram 3500 dually, 5.9 Cummins, 6
speed manual transmission.
5. I subscribe to TDR. Turbo Diesel Registry
This is predominantly Cummins, but lots of
excellent information for diesel owners.

And some humor.
if anyone asks why there are two batteries, they are obviously new to the game. Tell them those are to power each headlight.

Don't be upset, a broken part provides the perfect time to upgrade.

When asked why your Diesel is plugged into the house? Respond with "it isn't, the house is plugged into it, haven't paid an electric bill in years.

It makes perfect sense to pay more for a lesser refined fuel". Said no one ever.

Ok…. This post is long enough….. Rick

Thanks for the laugh Rick! Too dang funny.

Yes, High Output.

I also decided to go back to the chrome bumpers after having painted bumpers. The number of chips in the paint is what made me realize painted bumper wasn't worth it. I guess it will look a bit more old school vs. all the black out looks I am seeing on these models.

Hi

What a strange idea, 350/3500 to tow a Classic ... ( we just went from a 250 to a 350 to tow ours).

Probably best to get the Classic on order now if you want to see it in 2022 ....

Bob, we are waiting until our dealer (Airstream DFW) can get a model we are interested in looking at in stock that is already sold before we place our order. My sales guy said he has one coming in soon (like 2 weeks). After that we will decide which model we want to go forward with.

Hi

Nothing wrong with spending some time in one before you buy it. The ideal way is to get a couple of hours without the sales person hovering around and a stream of other folks coming in and out. You very much want to have the time to try to do all the stuff you normally would do. The "can you actually fix a meal with somebody sitting over there" sort of stuff takes a while to work out. ( ... and no, if the computer junk is set up all over the dinette table making dinner is not as easy ... )
