MIA in transit!! 65 Caravel
I bought a 65 Caravel from a guy in Maine and used Uship to find a shipper. Matched with one based in Goshen, IN and gave 1/2 deposit via cashiers check - he was to pick up the trailer on 6/5, then it was 6/12, then it was 6/13, 6/24 - you get the idea. Now, it was finally picked up on 6/29 and to be delivered by 7/4 at the latest with "updates along the way". I've heard nothing since Saturday morning. I've tried since then to get in touch to no avail. Calls to his home and cell go straight to vmail, no returned emails or text messages. I'm fearing the worst - but what do I do? The trailer has no plate as the owner kept his, the shipper has the deposit and the trailer and I can't even get a call back. I have a voicemail into the Goshen PD.... but I'm in CA! I'm in tears!!! There's a photo in my profile I think - If anyone has seen it please let me know - thank you.

I can feel your pain but I had gone through the exact pains you are going through with one of our boats! We had hired a boat hauler to take our 29' from Oxford Maryland up to RI. He arrived two days late for the pick-up. A week after the boat was to arrive in RI we were still unable to reach him. Eight days later our boat arrived in RI. It appears that this is not unusual. I am sure you have a copy of his bond and insurance, right? If you do you should have no problems. It seems that long haul riggers often have three or more hauls lined up along their route and drop of one long distance haul for a shorty and then continue with the long. I wish you luck and please keep us all posted.

Uship
Contact Uship.
They have on file information and credit card numbers for each one who deals through them.

Very upsetting, but considering he was a month late picking it up, I wouldn't panic just yet. Try to remain calm and follow up where you can - with Uship, or leaving messages on his vmails. I hope you hear from them soon!

He may just be camping his way across the good ol' USA. I'm sure he doesn't get many chances to haul a unit as nice as yours. If this were me I'd be leaving a message with Uship letting them know I expect an answer within 48 hours or I will have to consider the trailer stolen and involve the state police. I suspect that could generate at least a return call. Make sure you go over the trailer with a fine eye inside, out and on top and underneath before you sign off. Have you spoken with the seller about what the pick up individual looked like, what was he using as a TV, etc? That would be helpful if you do have to involve the authorities.

Sorry about what's happening to ya.Was this a transport company or just a guy doing this on his own? as a trucker (ex owner operator) I hope for your sake it was a legit company. 1st, I would contact the company and demand an answer. 2nd,contact the state police where you live--I think this will fall under the same rules as general freight.Once he crosses a state line with your trailer, the FEDS take over as it becomes theft of interstate commerce (if it doesn't turn up).Best of luck to you and hope it shows up.... Any word on your trailer? Hoping things have sorted themselves out for you and you are distracted by the shiny object in your yard.

Thankfully
The cops just drove by looking at the 65 Caravel in our yard here in central NY --- just kidding but now I'll probably be pulled over next time I'm towing because of the APB... all points bulletin...
Seriously, hope it has arrived.. let us know.

Rob - If the coppers did stop at your house I wouldn't be surprised! All those AS's, someone must be stealing them because who would ever buy so many!
We might have to pick-up a Caravel for Sara once the TW is completed!

I sent a PM asking for an update so we will see what the response is. I'm hoping it's that it has arrived, that it was everything they'd hope it would be, and that they are just too busy enjoying it. I'll pass on what, if anything, I hear back.

I dont know why she hasnt been on. She did recieve it one day towards the end of last week because she sent me the old gaucho covers to redo. I will ask her to update the post as I talk to her almost daily. I think she has been busy trying to clean it up.

She promptly responded to my email and noted that she did receive the trailer but it was not without difficulty. As Silver Threads noted she has been very heads down cleaning and also dealing with damage done in transit, and said she'll post a message with the details today. I think this has been very draining for her to deal with and I'm just glad she got her trailer. It sounds as though Silver Threads is going to provide a big piece of the visible update puzzle to make it her own trailer and she is very excited to have that done.
Sometimes we go through an awful lot of stress and difficulty to get our trailers but once we have them in our possession the hassles disappear pretty quickly.

WHOA! It finally arrived. It was a huge ordeal and I think I aged about 20 years. The police had to get involved and there was some minor damage inside (mostly to things I was going to change anyway). The first thing I did was immediately take out the old cushions as getting pretty ones was priority one and then the next second of every day was dealing with the DMV. Maine it turns out is a no title state for trailers of this age and weight and California didn't take kindly to that so a lot of paperwork, calls to Maine and CA DMV lines later it even has a legal CA plate.... So glad it's here and thanks to all who were concerned... I greatly appreciate the encouragement!

My goodness! Well, it's good to hear it finally made it home. It will all be worth it once you get it fixed up and it feels like 'yours'! It's a shame you had to go through such trials to get it!
Congrats on joining the Caravel club! After four years of camping we love our Caravel as much as the day we brought it home, if not more

Glad! :)
Glad it made it too.. I can bring my 65 Caravel out of the barn now and back into the yard Why did it take so long - was the tower actually camping out in it?
So we can learn, what was up with the deliverer ? How'd you find this company? So we can all advoid what happened to you in the future, we'd looking forward to the skinny!
Thanks,
