How to mount enormous backup camera screen?

Hey... so my AS came with an enormous screen to go with my backup camera. Any tips on how to mount that thing?

Look at some of the Ram mount components, you might find something hing handy with their stuff. I use them for my iPad on the boat.

Leave the suction cup thingy off, and simply place it in the console where you can look at it.

Do not have a back up camera but have researched them a bit. I wondered about how to mount the screen also. When I do get my back up camera I am going to look for a mount like this one. Not recommending this particular one, but just the cup holder mount style. There are a bunch of them out there.

Thanks for this. I just bought one (on Amazon a couple $ cheaper).

I have been using a mount I made from a pipe adapter for black plastic pipe. Sometimes it pops out on bumpy roads. The small end fit my cupholder when I added three foam pads, and I cut the slots in the big end at a slant to hold my iPad. The one I bought was black, and thin plastic, so this may not be the right size, but you get the idea.

I had aluminum diamond plate 9x7 inches square. I mounted (bolted) to the plate about 3/5 distance on length and centered on plate. Paint flat black. 3m adhesive to stick some automotive gasket to four edges to underside of plate for Skid and abrasion management. Hint: do not fully encircle underside. Put automotive door edge protection trim around the edges for bump guard.

Now I can easily lift into or out of or adjust position simply and it stays in place in almost any situation except extremely rough/washboard roads... but it only moves around without crashing to the floor.

Fix some velcro straps to the rear of the screen and strap it to your rear view mirror. Can't see squat in it when towing anyway.

You can probably pull a power supply up there under the head lining so you can plug it in without a dangling cable.

I did this for my Voyager rear view camera - worked well.

That's what I am worried about in addition to the actual impact on visibility.

Our screen it also quite large a 7 inch. I mounted it on a piece of laminated wood between the two front seats. It does not block my view of the road and is in a good position to see it. The screen is attached by screws in the screen bracket and the wood is secured with a bungee cord so it does not bounce around. I also cut some high density foam and mounted it on the underside of the wood so it fits nicely into the console. I bought my screen and two cameras (back of truck and back of trailer) from China and it was about 1/2 the price of the Voyageur one. Only problem is sometimes the signal from the trailer does not reach us as it is about 50 feet from camera to screen. Our system then flicks to the other camera.

But portable GPS units come with a suction cup mount????

I mount the GPS in the top left of the windshield. I can see under it fine and I can touch the screen without undoing my seatbelt.

In the middle of the dash of my Tundra, is a recessed area covered with a small nonskid rubber mat. I removed the mat, drilled holes in the mount (suction cup on) put in the location I wanted and put three short screws through the plastic into the dash.

Works like a champ. Is not in the way looking out the windshield and does not move.

Has been in place for five months and no problems.

Our situation is perhaps a bit different because we have a jumbo-sized windshield, larger than many TVs, but we suspended our 7-inch monitor from the cab header and have had no issues with it, other than the need to be careful with the rear wiring when we put the windshield interior sun shade in place. This Air Forums thread describes the installation process.

These pics show it with the cab liner removed (the photos say left and right because it switches to side camera views when the turn signal is actuated... these pics also show a wire hanging down but that is not present in the finished installation as it was fed through the trim).

Just an idea, but my old GPS came with a "Bean Bag" mount. It just sits on the dash. I'll bet Ram Mounts makes something like it.

Ram Mounts are extremely well made and are very durable and versatile. They can be used to hold almost any electronic device and are often used by professionals.

I use Proclip mounts www.proclipusa.com. I have the Voyager backup camera and the monitor keep falling from the windshield with the suction cup. I ordered a Proclip dash mount and a Proclip Device Mounting Adapter part # 215053. The device mounting adapter mounts perfectly to the monitor and the monitor then slides into the dash mount. It is easy to remove and store out of sight and the monitor is very stable and doesn't wobble.

I just switched trucks so I have a dash mount # 854873 that I'm not using if anyone is interested they can have it if they pay the postage (I used this mount on a 2015 Ford F250 but it may also get other vehicles)
