Hitch Expert

I am slowly wending my way back home (Idaho to Virginia) and would appreciate recommendations on a 'hitch expert' along the way, that I could check in with regarding my current set-up. Current travel plan is Missoula, MT, I-90 across Montana to a couple of campgrounds in South Dakota; then Omaha for a couple of days; rest of way to be determined later.
Thank you.

Don't go to a dealer..... they're MINIMALLY qualified to set up your hitch. You didn't mention which hitch you have..... google the hitch dealers/installers on your route.

Missoula has a dealer close to the Interstate. Worth a quick stop since you are headed that way. They sell several brands including the AS. Expect to pay your way.

Maybe the best would be to do research and become the expert on your hitch. A few specific questions of forum members on your TV, TT and hitch might get you started.

Often folks expect too much. Wiggle can be identified as sway. Tuning is required for every load out. It also includes TV parameters, tire pressure and type of tire, in addition to hitch adjustment.

A lot of flaws can be mitigated at 55 mph, but understanding what you have is key to safety and comfort. Asking for help is quite smart.

Good luck with your investigation. Pat

I would recommend Council Hitch in Council Bluffs, IA. It is easily accessed from I 29 on your way into Omaha. I have bought various hitch supplies from them in the past. Their tech advice is good and they are friendly and locally owned.
