Hensley owners, tell me what you think!

I got a Hensley Arrow given to me by brother -in-law, who used it once to pull an enclosed snowmobile trailer. Decided to buy a Duramax to pull the trailer, and threw the hitch in a shed about 10 years ago. I cleaned it up, replaced quite a few rusted and lost pieces, and painted it. Went to the scales today and this is the numbers.

Truck empty, full fuel, nothing in the box.

Front weight 4695 lb. Fender to ground 39 3/4 inches.

Rear weight 3351 lb. Fender to ground 41 3/4 inches.

Truck empty, full fuel, nothing in box. Trailer loaded for travel minus groceries, full LP tanks, all holding tanks empty.

Front weight 4410 lb. Fender to ground 39 3/4 inches.

Rear weight 4739 lb. Fender to ground 40 1/4 inches.

Trailer wight hitched to truck 7740 lb.

Tongue weight 970 lb.

Should I put some weight back on the front? When loaded for the road, I will have about 250 lb. in the back of the truck, and 1/4 tank of fresh water.

Any thoughts or ideas really appreciated!! Chris.

I hope the pictures loaded correctly!!

I'd tighten your jacks another inch or so. I like my truck to be mostly level.

Nice looking rig.

I would re-weigh when fully loaded ready for camping.
Return all but 100lb to the TV FA.

Shorten you're chains to cradle the tongue if it should separate. Also the hooks on the TV are backwards, clip opening should face the trailer.
I would also use the same type hooks you have for the TV end on both ends of the chain.
Replace those screw links.

BTW do NOT twist the chains to shorten them...cut.

Thank you for the comments. Yes, will be adjusting the chains. Just got new transport chain to replace the old and they had no hooks left in stock. My bolt cutters won't touch that chain and my disc grinder got borrowed and hasen't come home yet!! When back of truck is loaded almost all of the weight is in the front of the box, so I "assume" that at least 100 lb will go back on the front. Going on the road next week so will try and get to the scales again. Thanks again!!

What is the technical explanation for this recommendation? Never having heard it, I did a search and found this discussion on the Forum: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f46...wn-103136.html. That discussion shows no real consensus, but most seem to have the clip opening facing the tow vehicle.

I was taught to have the opening Of the hook to face the trailer rather than the ground when pulling trailers with “S” hooks, so they would not jump off when going over bumps in the road.
