Yes, and it involves less down-time for the consumer and also usually is a more pleasing solution for him as it involves far more new replacement parts and a better warranty.

Example: My cousin continued to drive my Buick V6 with the oil alert light on until the engine cratered. Buick told me they could rebuild my engine in 16 days and it would carry a 3K mile/90-day warranty...or replace it with a factory-reman in 2 days with a 3-yr/36K mile warranty. The price was the same: $2350.

Even I could make that decision.

Last year my son's Tahoe tranny died and the local trans shop (an excellent ship I'd done business with for years, All Star Transmisisons in Marble Falls, TX) told me they'd open it up and look but if it was the computer-chip inside it'd be better to replace with a remanufactured unit than repair it. The cost to look/see was $400. Turned out to be a torque converter and total repair was $2400 (which included addt'l authorized repairs), but to replace with a reman would have been $4K if that chip was bad.

Bad URL, but the issue isn't an internal transmission problem, it's an installation problem in which the cable may not be secured properly which can lead to the transmission being in a different gear than is indicated on the dash.

Different campaign is for 161 vehicles that may have a problem with the park pin.

I have the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2L gas with the 8-speed transmission. I saw much of the same identifiers you have seen while towing my AS 950 miles with it. Effortless shifting. Very nice power range. Nothing unusual in the transmission temperature range. I had very good power and averaged 13.4 mpg towing the AS.

GMC will introduce the 10-speed transmission with the 6.2L in the Sierra truck line in the 2019 model year.
