Flamma Bike Rack
Looking for feedback from folks who have used the Flamma bike rack. We plan to take our bikes on the back of our 25FB on most every trip. I'm most interested in how well the rack performs and whether there is any damage, wear etc. that the AS suffers in the process. Thanks all.

We have the Fiamma rack on both our 19' and our 23'. It has worked well for us though others have reported a few problems like broken fittings. Also, Fiamma USA is not the most responsive group. Just have to be persistent.

Also, do a search on the forum for Fiamma. Several threads are available with detailed comments and installation advice.

We've traveled extensively with the Fiamma, consider it an ideal setup. We also had a Fiamma on our VW Camper Van. Easy to use, bikes stay clean, has been no trouble. Subtracts from often excessive hitch weight.
Have seen a few reports of the Fiamma's shell mount breaking, one was loaded with heavy electric bikes, another not mounted correctly, another apparently just broke. No damage to the trailer. If you have a rear storage hatch it's harder to access.

Good suggestion Steamy1. After a quick search, this guy will not be buying a Flamma.

Can-Am Airstream in London, ON also makes a custom rear mount bike carrier for an Airstream, and it folds down to access a rear storage compartment. Contact them.

Maybe not, but we've been quite happy with their rack on our 27FB.
However, we're also cognizant of the weight limit specified for the rack. We carry no more than two bicycles of normal size and weight. We also don't carry any heavy stuff there, such as battery-powered bikes, recumbent bikes, etc.

I had one on my '12 28' Intl CCD. Do not have one on my '15 Classic. Main reasons: cast aluminum fitting broke ($56) -- and my bikes were not that heavy; makes rear window emergency exit unusable; very difficult to access rear storage area through the maze of aluminum. We went to Dahon folding bikes.

My father-in-law fabricated a hitch receiver for the back of our 27fb which is bolted to the frame of the AS. It's super steady and does not add a bunch of weight to the rear. The main issue I found with putting a rack on the rear is apparany associated with older model AS experiencing rear end separation. We aren't all that worried about it. Our bikes weight 50lbs plus the rack plus steel.
I have a few pics if interested.

We have been cautioned by some Airstream repair shops here on the forum about using a bumper mounted rack without struts attached to the shell to hold the rotational downward and increased G forces imposed by movements of the trailer going down the roadway. They suggest the weight on the frame will be increased far more than the static weight of the bikes and assembly. The frame will flex independently of the shell, or try to.

We love the Flamma on our 27 Classic. We use it all of the time (3 seasons now). and have never had any problems. We haul 2 bikes. It is much more convenient than our previous roof mount rack.
Bottom line - no regrets and highly recommended.

Two years with Fiamma rack on our Pete (FC 27fb), with no problems. So much easier than most any bike solution we have ever used on any rig. Tighten three straps per bike and you're gone. Now if I could figure out how to haul grand-kid bikes on it too............
I guess my only regrets are that yes, accessing the bumper storage is tricky when the bikes are on the rack (probably worse with a rear hatch like an rb would have), and it does take away from the aesthetics of the rear of the coach. But it sure is easier to use than so many solutions I've seen struggled with in campgrounds.

Very nice piece of work. Just what I would like. Your father-in-law doesn't happen to live near Durango, CO does he?
