Curt BetterWeight system?

I have a New Curt Better weight system and have been impressed so far.
It plugs into your vehicles OBD plug, enter your VIN # and BAM! It does the math from there. This thing has been accurate enough to sense a 30lb propane bottle added to the bed of my GMC 2500HD bed.

GMFL, thanks for sharing that about the CURT system. I wasn't aware they developed one. Just watched several of their videos about the product. Will definitely check it out at the local Farm & Fleet retail store. *I've got a $60 credit there so hopefully it's in stock soon.

Ok, now you’re talking facts and measurements. Thanks for taking the time to do so.

Have you been able to check the numbers with a CAT scale, by chance?

Now I gotta figure out how to add one to my system...the forums are costing me boku bucks occasionally...

Numbers match pretty close.
Last time I weighed on the scales tongue weight was right at 980lbs
And Gross weight was 14200, but that was fully loaded and full tanks.

The BetterWeigh just plugs into your OBD plug on your Tow Vehicle.
Enter your VIN in the App and calibrate Level and your good to go.
I don’t think it will replace the scales but it’s a great way to reference your setup.

I'd be interested in something like this as I tow various trailers.
I'm curious about the "Terms Of Service" though. Connecting any app to your phone opens up potential issues depending on the companies TOS.
Too often, we pay to give things away...

The Curt system seems to be licensed from HaulGauge, which I own. The application looks identical. I like this product and also find it to be accurate within about 5% and precise enough to detect about 50 lb added or removed.

Standard Transmission Functions Question

I see that all functions will not be available for vehicles with standard transmissions and air suspensions, could some one provide insights to specific loss of functions? I have a manual six speed in my RAM 2500. Thank you 😎

Yes, the way it works, it compares transmission output torque to measure acceleration and with a manual transmission, a torque estimate becomes problematic so calculating vehicle and combined weight is out. Payload, tongue weight and weight distribution use static geometry so that all works. Without weight I wonder if it is worth the $90. I'd say not.

I have the Haul Gauge. After getting it setup it was pretty accurate. But I to wouldn't buy again. About $30 to make multiple passes at a CAT scale and once you have decided what settings are best on your WD setup then it's likely you aren't going to change anything unless you make a major modification to the trailer/tow vehicle.

I recently purchased the Curt BetterWeight device. Plugs in easily and finds your vehicle by inputting your VIN. Calibration was fairly easy just accelerate at 1/2 throttle from 0 to 15 mph. Problem is keeping the tires from loosing contact and spinning with the 6.7L Cummins. If you don’t do half throttle accelerations you don’t get accurate readings. I haven’t tried with the Airstream hooked up yet due to staying home order. It was able to sense me in the truck bed. Customer support is very good. The bad part, IMHO, is either you use a known weight from the CAT scale for your TV or you have to do the calibration (0 to 15mph) each time and then hook your Airstream up and do it again. Subtract first weight (unhooked TV) from second weight (Airstream plus TV) to find your Airstream weight. It does not store any information from one pull to the next. Kind of a hassle to go through each time. It can be unplugged from the OBD port when not towing as the Bluetooth part does have small current drain if left plugged in all the time. Seems to be very accurate as long as you can get the half throttle acceleration without wheel spin.
