Coupler trailer hitch lock

I'm looking to buy a lock but not willing to spend the 200 to 350 for one. Im looking for opinions on which one with a reasonable price is a good one.

Yup, this one. But it is likely well above the price point your are looking at. But, you get what you pay for and this one is about the best. Have a look at his videos to see how easy it is to cheat a number of other, brand name, less expensive locks. It will leave you wondering, why bother. It is not about theft prevention as much as it is about deterrence. If someone wants it, they will get it. A good lock just wards off the opportunistic thieves.

There are plenty of decent locks out there for $100 or less. Check on amazon. These are NOT a guarantee but as others say just a deterrent. If you have a lock, the bad guy is more likely to move on to others who don’t.

It's massive. The one thing I don't like is putting the key in. Either you need to lay under the coupler, or guess how the key slot lines up.


My second choice would have been the California Immobilizer.

Make sure it will fit the Airstream coupler, since Airstream uses a sort of unique coupler.

The Megahitch Vault Pro was the best I found when we looked for a solution. It's about $200. The one posted above is impressive.

The other ones that we looked at appeared less than impressive, but over and over folks make the point. A determined thief will find a way. Break it, cut it, punch it or ignore it and just drag.

So pick the one you believe is worth spending your money to acquire and use it every time you drop the coach.

I bought the California Immobilizer through Zoro.com. It was around $85. You can go straight to the manufacturer but they are slow to get back with you and can’t give credit on line. They must call you back. I also bought another type and can’t remember the name except for DT something. It’s good also but obviously if they want it, they’ll get it. Immobilizer to me is way to go.

I have the California Immobilizer seems to be a decent deteerent at a reasonable price around $100.00, needs to be ordered direct from California Immobilizer for Atkinson Hitch Airstream specific. The one on Amazon is not for Airstream Trailers. http://immobilize.com/

When I first got my lock last year, finding the keyway would frustrate me, too, so Iput a "dot" on the key to show me which side is up. Works everytime. 😉

I’m likely not going to tell you something you’ll get. That said, I simply have a hardened steel Masterlock combination lock. And a stated-value insurance policy. The lock is a deterrent as has been already said. While I would hate for it to be stolen, my investment is covered.

Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one!

Buy a ball of the size of the coupler. Cut off the threaded part. Stick it in the coupler. Then lock the coupler like you would when towing.
Simple and inexpensive.

Agree. I use a cheap wheel lock/chock, a simple locking pin on the coupler, and a cheap master lock to make the safety chains difficult to grab. I feel like these three things are together enough to deter a lazy thief... (and that basically nothing is enough to deter a determined one!)
