Small displacement turbo charged engines are working much harder with more internal stresses than the larger displacement normally aspirated engines.

I guess if one buys the longest time frame and mileage extended warranty and plans to trade when one of those two mile stones is reached, then the real cost of an engine failure is not an issue for the current owner. Turbos can cost $2k before labor is added.

Reading the fine print in an extended warranty is imperative to see where there may be any loop holes to deny coverage.

Hi

I normally don't go in for even the factory extended warranties. In the case of the turbo diesel, I made an exception to that rule. Price for the factory 100K miles plan came out to your price for a turbo ....

Yes, there's a lot of this and that in the fine print. You most certainly do *not* get everything covered, even if the bold print in the brochure strongly suggests that. Anything you would normally consider a "I'm going to replace this" item (brakes, tired, shocks, filters, windshield, oil ....) isn't going to be covered. There's a pretty long list past that ....

Bob, I'm so surprised.

You mean to say you don't believe that Iced Tea has his collection covered under the Kar-Scam policy?

Having dealt with a variety of different 'plans' for over 30yrs the only ones that may be helpful are the ones offered by the vehicle manufacturer.

Most of the others are not worth the paper they be written on.

Believe me it's not fun having to explain to a service customer that the plan they purchased by phone from a TV ad or a mailing is junk.
Not to mention dealing with a clueless administrator trying to explain what the customer needs repaired.

Legal scams....it's all about the money.

'Ask your doctor'....wait, that's a whole 'nuther pharma $$$ scam.

Hi

Right after I did the factory warranty down at the dealer, a helpful person called up to tell me it had expired and they were there to let me know how to extend it ..... how fast time files ..... For some really odd reason, those folks tend to hang up on me when I *do* chat with them. They don't seem to have my 1938 Studabaker Dictator in their book .... or the Dusenberg or the Cord or ....

If you have never made it to the Cord / Dusenberg auto museum in Auburn Indiana, you very much need to do so. It's a Harvest Host *with* power hookups. They have done a great job presenting what they have as well as having a lot of very cool cars. ( ... and yes we seem to hit a lot of auto museums ...)

In the not too distant past, the scam artists created extended warranty companies that would go out now business in about three or four years just before the claims started coming in.....

We went with the Toyota branded extended warranties (100,000 miles and ten years for my wife's 2020 RAV4 Limited hybrid) and 125,000 miles and ten years for my 2021 Land Cruiser and her daughters three 2021 4Runner Ventures.

They explicitly state what electronics are covered which is important on the Land Cruiser as that screen is actually the interface for many important functions that lack an alternative data entry point. That useful device is over $2,500.

Mr Toyota has begun the change from a longevity mind set to a planned obsolesce plan of action. So these longer warranty polices could become a fond memory and Toyotas still running fine at over twenty years could become a fond memory.

The new buyers of today have been raised with the "got to have the latest and greatest" mind set fo many years. So creative sales designs stuff to last the warranty period plus one day....
