Storage in a well protected storage facility with a well-armed resident overseer. The nice bit is that my AS is in his easy line of sight...

I remember reading in an RV magazine last year, that a majority of RV thefts (including trailers) occur, not at RV parks or KOA campsites; but in RV storage areas. Very important to have a secure storage facility with good CCTV networks.

Curt #81950 looks like the right stuff for our 2017 FC 25' to replace the ends and OMG yes there are two large SS key rings on the safety chains installed by the factory. Thanks Airstream, good idea for keeping chains from dragging.

Kscheri....that recommendation is a great idea. Perhaps a kill switch, or an on/off switch for the 12 volt electric jack could be wired and placed inside the locked forward storage compartment nearest the jack. This would disable the electric jack from use during any theft attempts.

I just pull the fuse from the fuse holder near the jack.

Is Airstream theft a huge issue? Or tow vehicles?

This thread rattled my chains. I'd never heard of a trailer being stolen right out of a campground. A storage facility, yeah but a campground? It prompted me to do a survey on what people do for protection and to put it bluntly, very little. I guess that's what insurance is for but then I find out, we'd better check our policies or we could be screwed. In any event, you'd think that if you're in a campground for a few days, a neighbor would notice a strange crew showing up, hastily trying to defeat a lock, hitch up and skidaddle in a hurry. I've heard of things being stolen from a campsite, generators, batteries, etc. But never the whole house! Anyone know of stats regarding the frequency?

I also tried to find theft statistics on Airstreams, and was not successful at all. I then tried to find general RV theft incident data. However, no theft database has been compiled by the RV industry or insurance industry. So I have no idea as to numbers. Apparently, more RV thefts do occur in long term storage sites, based on one article that provided no supporting data.
In Fort Worth, and based on police reports, nine travel trailers were stolen from Jan- June, 2018. One was recovered in a truck stop on I-35 with a flat tire. But nobody has tabulated theft numbers data for each state.

I'll add a couple of deterrence techniques taken from many years of international living and travel in high crime areas, as well as consultation with security experts. We have also cruised our sailboat through Central America without loss. My only experience of actual theft was from my back yard in Louisiana[emoji37])
1. Light - I have affixed five motion activated pathway lights to our Airstream. Front and rear both sides, rear over license plate. They automatically illuminate at low level at sunset and switch to bright upon sensing motion. These look good, are useful when setting up after dark and are maintenance-free. Affixed with Scotch Extreme Mounting Tape. No external on/off switch. Amazon: OxyLED TSP-02 Motion Sensor LED Wall Mount Path Light, Silver. No, they haven't bothered traffic when towing at night.
2. Light - Leave a reading light on inside the trailer. Perhaps on a timer.
3. Light & Sound - Leave a TV or radio on in the trailer or hotel room.
4. Hide tempting items from sight. Don't flaunt possessions. Leave the patio chairs out, though, perhaps with a beverage beside the chair.
5. Locks - Use locks to deter the casual thief. Chain the generator. Chain the bikes. Chain the wheels. Lock the battery compartment.

quick question. Could someone explain why removing the safty chains would help. Why does removing them help prevent theft?

Safety at a casino
We were just staying at a well known casino in Oklahoma in their lovely RV park and I just happened to think...........the casino provides shuttle buses to take guests back/forth from the park to the casino - nice service - BUT - what if the nice kid that drives the bus has a secret connection to some buddies that are up to no good.........well - he can pick you up at your parking space and as soon as you are delivered to the casino, he can call his buddy and tell him "space #53 has a nice satellite tail - gater and nice chairs - and - oh, by the way, just help yourself to the RV since those folks are going to a show and will be gone at least 2 hours!!" Just a thought - I realize it's my crazy self that thought this up - but - it sure could happen!!

I like the Denver Boot device, it seems like the most practicable, except maybe the dog, which probably cold be poisoned.

Been giving the security of our beloved AS a lot of thought for a year now.
1. We leave our AS in parks to go on day trips. I have noticed that strange vehicles seem to wander in and drive around looking for easy prey.
2. We leave our AS on it's parking pad behind the house when we leave the ranch. Being rural (even with a big, closed, iron entry gate) an AS is inviting for those who wander by looking for generators, welders etc. Once beyond the gate, they can back up and load up our AS.
3. So today, I will pull out the credit card and order the Proven Industries hitch lock for the AS. Pricey - yes, but peace of mind is never cheap.
Thanks for the great thread and suggestions.

Made one. Off to Powder Coater next week. Master lock was just for mock up. Multlock MP5+ puck lock should arrive Tuesday. All made from AR500 steel.
I know all can not do this project, but I do not have any advanced tools.
Used Drill press, hole saws, 4”angle grinder, bench belt sander, a few files and mig welder.
It was a fun project.

Bang bang - dead thief.
Nobody, but nobody gets away with messing with my dog. Take my rig and materialistic valuables, but touch by dog(s) and you’ll regret it.

As I understand it, trailer thieves try to snatch & go so rather than fiddle for long defeating a hitch lock, they'll just pull it away with the safety chains. I once saw a truck do that with a utility trailer and their tow bar was "modified" for it so it was easy and they had their own chains so removing yours
I guess won't necessarily stop them.
