Anyone towing with a '22 Tundra yet?
Anyone towing with a 2022 Tundra yet?
Feel free to PM me.
I'd like to know; what you think of the truck, your TV & TT setup and the payload capacity of your Tundra.
I'm considering a 2022 SR5 DC 4WD 6.5' bed.
Thanks!

At the moment, at least in Southern California, the new ‘22 Tundras are overpriced by at least $10,000 and pure unobtaniun at the local dealers. I’m still driving my old Tacoma for now.

I too am waiting on seeing the new Tundra as a potential replacement for our 2010 Tundra. It will ultimately depend on the payload capacity. If there is not a substantial improvement over our 1290 lbs, we will either look at other brands or just keep what we have.

I believe that the 2022 Tundra SR5 4X4 double cab 6.5' bed has 1500 lbs of payload.
I've been researching this and I haven't found any new Tundra with more than 1555 lbs.
Hopefully that's sufficient for your needs.

Too bad, eh? I was hoping for around 1600 lbs. Highest I've seen on these new Tundras is 1555. So much for the advertised "up to 1940 lbs max payload". Perhaps a 2016 regular cab with over 1800 lbs of payload is in my future!

Loved my old Tundra and the new ones look really nice. Always a bit shy when a new motor comes out. The 5.7 was bulletproof although it was a real pig MPG wise. We wanted more trailer than a Tundra can tow which is why I went with a 3/4 ton. Damn I wish Toyota had made the jump to the 3/4 ton market.

The battery and electric motor have to add several hundred pounds. It seems Toyota decided that if you want the higher end features, you have to get the hybrid and compromise your payload.

I don’t lose a lot of sleep over 100 pounds of payload capacity. The two concerns I have about the new Tundras are the twin turbo, and rear coil springs. I really like the Roadmaster Active Suspension on my 2012, I guess you’d have to add airbags on a 2022. I think Toyota is more focused on ride comfort than payload, which is probably fine for most buyers. I also keep seeing reported issues with other manufacturers twin turbo engines. Hopefully Toyota will get it right.

Is the Twin Turbo really a new motor or is it adapted from something else? I'd give it a model year before I jumped in. Of course I bought a Jeep JL the first year they came out and so far after 3 years its' been pretty decent. They do have an issue with locker sensors on the axels failing and I had to have my rear axel replaced (under warranty). I got the V6 but others I know that got the turbo 4 have not had much in the way of issues and get much better gas milage.
I like Toyotas a lot so I'd be less worried abut 1st year issues than I was with my Jeep and FCA.
My son has been looking at a new Tundra and with now he's delaying because of the new motor question plus the $10k premium they are adding on the truck. That half ton Toyota is as much as my 2500 Ram I bought last July!

So with all that Hybrid tech, he was still getting 10.7 mpg.
I always beat that with my thirsty 2015 Tundra 5.7.
Best of all, mine is paid for. Okay I have to manually extend my tow mirrors and that takes 5 seconds, I'll take it.

It's the same engine as the current generation LS500 built to truck specs, so been around since 2018. It's been a great platform for the LS, but we'll see how it does under truck type loads.

This is good to know. I admit, I’m a Toyota fanboy My 2012 still has a lot of years left in it, but I won’t be as concerned about that engine when it’s time to trade.
