You’ll likely be fine because older trailers are lighter but do yourself a favor and open the drivers door and check your payload sticker.
I found out the hard way my 2019 Ram
1500 only had 1220 lbs. of payload and our 2019 Airstream 27’ Globetrotter’s actual tongue weight was 1100 lbs which doesn’t leave much room for passengers And cargo.
A trip to the CAT scales proved we were over the rear axle maximum of 4100 lbs. without WD and a few hundred under with WD. Never exceed your axles or Gross rating.
The truck had a 3.92 rear axle and 11,400 lbs of towing capacity so pulling wasn’t the issue. Hopefully your truck has 1500 lbs or more payload. If so, you’ll be fine.
I loved the 1500 Ram and would have kept it had the payload been more. After 7 months of wrangling the dealer and FCA agreed to buy back the truck so we could get a 2500 6.4 Hemi with 2,920 lbs payload that weighs 1000 lbs more than the 1500. We’re heading to Colorado next week for our first extended trip.
Congratulations on your new Airstream and enjoy the ride!
